How Awesome... very excited for you!! So they are just a little behind, just a waiting game now...I just went out and just put each egg to my ear. One was peeping and tapping, another was tapping and two were very quiet. I left all 4 in her nest because none smelled. The one that I immeadiately thought was bad because of how dark it had become was the one that I heard peeping and tapping in, so I thought best just to leave all 4 at the moment. Day 32. 41 degrees this morning, but the eggs under mommy, really, really warm.
Whats the news this morning? it takes a long time for ducklings to hatch..I went out there about an hour ago and picked up the eggs and listened to them and again one was peeping and tapping and another was tapping, but not peeping. I didn't notice any breaks in the shells, though and I didn't candle them. The other two still didn't smell, but I heard nothing in them.
Gosh i was so hoping you'd see a couple of ducklings by now, did she go and settle right back down on the eggs? and you didn't see any signs of a pip on the egg shell? can you candle the one that was peeping and pecking? And yes they will rest it's tough work getting out of them shells. Other than candling and waiting i don't know what else you can do.I just went out and Mama was off the nest drinking and cleaning herself. I hoped that meant there might be a little one or two, but no (because I haven't seen her get off of her nest on her own in a long time). I listened to the eggs... one was tapping, the one that had been tapping a peeping was silent as were 2 others. I have read that they will rest and not make any noise, but should I be concerned about the one that was peeping? I know it is best if they hatch on their own... but the days are passing here.
