HI LADIES! It's been a long 24 hours ... so here is an update.... the little black duck is fine... he absorbed what ever that was and is healing nicely ....the last duck hatched at 2 am..... he is now under the heat plate with his family and seems to be doing well..... thank you for all your help! Hopefully they are all healthy and will make it!

Try to keep him dry and on something soft and clean, and hopefully it will continue to absorb. You can use a little Vaseline or antibiotic ointment if it seems like it’s sticking to the towel, but not necessary.
I would keep the other one away from it until it draws in a bit too, because the other duckling is likely to nibble on it.

Ok..... I will keep you updated.... hopefully my other eggs will hatch after messing around with the incubator so much..... no zipping just external piping.... so maybe they weren't affected 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

HELP..... we woke up to a new baby duckling but he had a mushy piece bulging from the back of the duck... duck seems fine but that piece is sticking to the dry paper towel.... HELP!! I don't what to do I can't even get a pic of it!
Sounds like he didn’t absorb the yolk all the way.
Not a great pic
Yeah I can’t really tell from that pic.. but if he didn’t absorb the yolk he should be placed in a small bowl in the incubator so he can finish absorbing the yolk without harming himself. Do you think you could try and get another pic?

So unfortunately the chick had passed.... the yolk wasn't full absorbed....

I figured this would be the case, but had so many people tell me in the past that float testing definitely cant mistake living babies for dead! Definitely not going to suggest that again!
Here’s the thing… if you float an egg and wait for it to jiggle in the water, then yes, it’s alive! But all the other indicators that are recommended to watch for, such as sinking, cannot “prove” that it’s dead. Just this site alone can provide many examples of sinking eggs that contained a live chick. On the flip side, floating does not necessarily mean it’s alive. The egg has to be left floating long enough to jiggle and the longer it stays wet, the worse that is on the shell.
In essence, my position is that candling is much more accurate and safe. If someone isn’t sure, just leave it in the incubator until a more definite candling can be determined.

Again, this is just my opinion. I always say “your egg, your choice”. I just offer my experience for consideration, not as law or judgement of anyones choices.
