Dead chicken

Well, I think I got the area good and secure. Have the trap set too. I will send whatever I catch to critter netherland. Guess I'll see what happens tonight. I am so scared for the rest of my chickens but I really don't see how anything can get in there now! Thanx again for your comments, suggestions and support. This is war!

Well, I got one coon and "baptized" him (live trap and then drowned him). Last night, got another coon but he didn't seem so mean, so I took him into town to be a city coon now (people always dump critters in the country where I live, so I thought I'd get back at 'em). So I've avenged Goldie's death with one coon and hopefully got the other one far away away he won't come back. Last night I found another hen with a 2" laceration on her side. I think it is Red the Rooster doing that as this hen is his favorite. So she is downstairs in the bathroom getting some TLC. Good grief. Who'd a thunk in less than a year I'd be a chicken lady with a chicken in my basement?!

Trapped another coon last night so I took him to church with me this morning and let him go. I spray painted him a bit to see if he is able to find his way back to my place (13 miles). Wonder how many more I'll trap? This is 4 so far, 3 in the last 3 days. My hen downstairs laceration probably needs stiches but I can't do that myself. Pretty nasty. I am hoping topical antibiotics will prevent infection. Anyone know of any liquid antibiotics for a deep wound? I see lots out there in the poultry catalogs but they're for other things than wound infections.

Okay, well, I'll try that. All I have is a .357 magnum, that's pretty big for a coon. Maybe I can borrow a neighbor's .22. I hate to kill them but don't want them around killing or hurting anymore of my chickens.
