December Hatch-A-Long 2014

So exciting!  Can't wait to hear how your hatch goes.

Best to go to bed since it can take 12 hours or more for the chick to hatch.  Remember...Santa doesn't come if you are awake.   hahaha

I did go to sleep because I figured not much would happen although I didn't sleep well.

It's still technically day 18 here till 16:00 this afternoon. I peeked through the plastic windows and I can see one of the eggs wiggling.

Yay, how exciting!

I am very excited for you and the kids! Hopefully, they will get to see this!  My daughter loved the pj monster idea...thanks!

No problem, they were pretty simple to make and I am not the greatest at sewing so if I could do it then anyone can.

Renee~ Did you get any sleep?

I got some but surprisingly I'm not tired at this point, I'm just so excited. I'll sleep well when they are all done hatching!

So if i understand  right...my Hovabator has a thermostat,  but i have to get it where it turns on and off at 100...  which i have, overnight, nice and steady....now when i place the eggs in,  it will drop, but come back up because i have the setting locked with the wing-nut....i shouldn't have to readjust it right?!!! ....also i 'm doing a dry hatch until lock down  (the humidity is so high with all the rain)...ok...i'm almost ready to put my 6 eggs in  :jumpy

In theory it should go back up to 100. I wouldn't mess with it for a while, it does taken many hours to get back up that high. Good luck!

My little one is still chirping, I love hearing it. I haven't seen the egg wiggle at all but I have seen it's beak working at the pip. He/she has gotten a little bit more done. No other pips yet but it's still only day 20. I'm good with knowing at least 1 is definitely alive at this point. Bad thing is I can't make myself get anything accomplished today. Well I have laundry going but I can't keep from staring at the incubator to do anything longer than throwing clothes in the wash or dryer! Such an exciting day, I hope the kids are home from school before he/she makes its way totally out. They were so excited this morning.

Is it normal for it to be making a big hole like this? I assumed it would be starting to just go all around but it seems to just be working in the one spot.

There are the two membranes in there outer and inner...If you read through the assisted hatching thread on here I think it helps illustrate the vessel recession pretty well. It really helped me out!

Good luck with your marans! Did you have splash in there too??? Did any of them hatch?
yeah I read it a couple times lol I keep checking on it and it is still breathing but still hasn't made progress. My one marans that was pipped made its pip hole a little bigger since this morning. and yes I had 3 splash left at lockdown..so far none have pipped :(

yeah some of mine did that. Don't worry until they are stuck for 24 hours. If they have an air hole they are fine
thanks! I'm not worried, it's chirping, moving, making progress and breathing so I know it's just taking its time. Just wondered if that's what it is suppose to look like, I just figured it would make a line around, didn't expect it to make a big hole. It looks like it just might wait till the kids are home (they get out at noon). But I'm so anxious to see what color it is and if I can tell what breed it is.

Crossing my fingers for you on those! I had one that pipped in the wrong spot and his blood vessels took a little while to recede. It took 15 hours to get him out of his shell. I kept checking him every 2 hours hoping he would be able to get out...opening the hole wider...but, he was in like superglue!

You got a lil yellow chick...didn't you? I am in love with this lil yellow chick I got from the Sizzle egg. Praying you have better luck than I dad with the splash. I candled a splash today and didn't see much...I stuck him back in the bator...just in case...

He may just pop out that hole. I think the zip is over rated....lol jk! Hope the kids are enjoying the process!

lol. Chick looks a bit tired, I think it's taking a break for a bit. Poor chick, such an exhausting process but I know it knows what it's doing... not opening incubator for anything till day 22. By the way PD Riverman... when you say day 22 do you mean beginning of day 22 or end of day 22?
