December Hatch-A-Long 2014

Day 10 started here not long ago and I just candled all 42 eggs. 40 are alive. 2 are unsure because they were speckled and it made it hard for me to tell.

Now I'm worried because, it looks like I've got some double yolkers. I've heard that they tend to not survive. And the thought of mutant chicks scares me
Wow those are amazing numbers for starters. Are they from your eggs or from shipped eggs?

They are mine. My flock other then my least favorite rooster and a pullet got wiped out by the family dog shortly after moving when they were in a temporary coop. Some of the eggs were around a week old as well, and I have a frowned upon incubator so I'm really surprised. But I do know that my Roos loved they're girls.

That's amazing, so sorry for your loss of flock, but pretty amazing that you have their eggs to start a new flock.

I am so sorry for your loss. I hope your hatch goes well with their babies!

I have my first pip on the Rhodebars...and it's not in the air cell.

Saying my prayers for the little guy. I had just taken apart and cleaned my other incubator and set to rest the 10 non hatchers. So, I hurriedly put it back together as I may need it soon!

Good luck! hopefully it makes it.

I did my first eggtopsy ever. As I suspected, it died a few days ago. Just a head, body, and big black eye. Poor baby. My husband cracked it as he was setting up the incubator. I had movement in there for several days but 3 days straight, I saw totally no movement. But I've got my other 3 I'm very hopeful for. Just kicking around like crazy inside :)

Anybody know how accurate a water candling is? I haven't had any new pips or anything so I decided I couldn't wait any longer. Float tested all 8 and none sank but none moved, not even a little. I think they are gone. It is going to drive me crazy not knowing what went wrong so I may open a few and take a look! :/
