December Hatch-A-Long!

I agree with hodor. The days are long when you're waiting for a sign...lol. Please keep us posted!

My whole day got turned upside down. I candled 3 eggs this morning (I couldn't help myself

) and all three eggs were showing signs of life.

Here's some pics from tonight:

Crele Old English pullet (such tiny eggs!) Both are hers.

Old English hen, duckwing An EE (hard to see clearly)

I see a few that don't appear to be developing, but final judgment won't be made until 7-10 days at least. I did add another yogurt container of water (high tech

) to increase the humidity last night.

I came across a really helpful thread and I was gonna post the link...and now I can't find it.

I'll post it if I find it.

Awesome wicked.

It's now over 24 hours since my first egg hatched and about 14 since the last one did. Still two Barnevelder eggs to go, I'm starting to worry, it's only just say 22 but everything else hatched so close together.

At least I have the others to keep me busy now. I sure hope they are eating and drinking enough.

Hello all!

I have 24 French Copper Black Marans in a Janoel 24 incubator, slated to hatch on Dec 13/14. I candled many of them and they looked viable last week. The good/bad news is that the egg color is so dark that I can't candle some of them!

Nothing smells, so I am going to ride it out.

Wish me luck!

In a totally unsolicited plug, I L-O-V-E my Janoel JN-24 with automatic turner. I have had an average 92% success rate over a one year period (some were 100% and some were 4 out of 6 which skews the percentage), and can point back to a problem with the egg (like shrink wrapping) when a chick didn't hatch. You can find new JN-24's on eBay for ~$75.

I used to get so crazy about not opening the incubator, until I realized that mama hen doesn't sit on the eggs for every minute, of every day, so if I open the incubator once in a while, it's not the worst thing to happen.

Welcome!

See, that's how I think about the eggs too. The hen turns the eggs often and she stands up (sort of) while she does turn them. She changes position. She gets off the eggs to eat and drink at certain points. The heat and humidity stabilizes very quickly in my incubator after I've been in it so I never worry about it.

Whew...the Black Cooper Marans...such a dark shell.

Can't wait to hear how you make out. Best of luck!!

Candled tonight 12/9/15.

I've got 7 eggs out of 9 eggs developing for certain. The other two I'm not sure. There is one double yolker that appears to be developing.
3 out of 6 Crele pullet eggs are developing! Wow...I thought they'd all be clear.

2 out of 3 OEGB hen eggs are developing. I marked the confirmed eggs with a circle but left everything in.

I candled the eggs, turned the eggs and rotated the eggs' position in the incubator. I do everything with the lid off. I'm not sure how long it took me to finish oohing over the embryos, but it took 7 minutes from the time I replaced the lid to the time the incubator was stabilized at proper temperature.

I noticed one of the eggs that has embryo development is from November 11th. That means it was 3 weeks and 3 days when it was put in the incubator. It is a full four weeks old today. We'll see if it develops.
