December Hatch-A-Long!

SIGH...

So my tonight one of the 8 remaining hatched and it's white!  (wait, what?!)

Now I have 7 with no sign of a pip.  So what do you all think?  The 7 remaining have been incubating since Dec 22nd. Should i try and open the remaining eggs in hope that there is someone in there, or do I just toss them?

If I open them does anyone have any instructions on how to do it? 

Wow!!! Are your eggs from the future as dec 22nd hasnt happened yet . I started with 7 now im down to three but i dont think they will hatch either. If my dont hatch i wait a day or so then open them to see just because.

They have been in there since NOV 22nd, should I open them? If so, any tips?

I couldn't wait, because I am impatient, and as it turns out, the remaining 7 were shrink wrapped and petrified. I've had that happen once, but not 7 of 24.

Oooooh, that stinks, all around. Sorry. The white chick...I know there are White Marans...but am guessing they should not be a possible genetic variant of BCM...probably more with BBS Marans? Weird.

The paint silkie eggs arrived today...but they spent an extra day en route....so here's hoping we have a good hatch rate, regardless!

Two of my eggs hatched out of 7.

Candle them and see if they internally pip'd. You should see their beaks in the aircell. Sometimes you can hear them chirping. I used tweezers to score the shell (where aircell is)and then grabbed the edge of the shell try not to break the white membrane. I held the egg in a warm damp paper towel. Took the top of the shell off to find it's beak and pulled some of the membrane back so it could start breathing when it's ready. Mine was alive, so I put egg on damp towel back in incubator. I kept an eye on the inner membrane, started to shrink so I used moist towel to dampen and used tweezer to pull away from face. I had to stop when I saw the blood vessels. Took @12 hours and it finished hatching on its own. There is a step by step guide for assisted hatching in the Learning Center.

Make that one chick as the other decided to fall on its back and die.

Here's a question....for folks that have auto-turners in their 'bators...when you go to lock down...do you remove the auto-turner, so the chicks don't get stuck in the gears?

Nope mine stay in half the time I dont even stop the turner never had one die in it.

So sorry, Panda, that is crushing for sure. So you have one little chick then?

My little white one died last night. The others are doing very well though.
