Decided on a classroom pet!

I agree with the rat suggestion. For a small caged pet that's portable, easy to take care of, interesting to watch, doesn't need expensive, specialized equipment and can be handled by children, you really can't beat a pair of rats. Hamsters and gerbils are cute, but in my experience they are much more prone to bite than rats. I would think birds of any kind would be more likely to cause problems with allergic children, since they flap their wings and spread dander far and wide.

Well she decided to go with Guinea Pigs! personally, I would have picked rats, but she's the teacher!! I will be picking them up for her this weekend I think. I found someone who needs to find hers a home. She had 3 boys and 2 girls, so she suggested the 2 girls because they would be perfect in the classroom because they are the friendliest out of them all! And 2 girls = no babies!!

Well these 2 are definitely girls, but she does have boys so I don't know if they have been around them or not. If they do have babies, I know of a REALLY good home for some of them

How about a fish aquarium? It's educational and pretty hard for the kids to touch/drop/kill, so less tears if they pass on.
