Humm, i am not a hunter so i wouldn't buy a fawn to raise for meat. If you did, i would say, as long as you use it to feed your family..AMEN

To raise as a pet?? humm not sure? I have no experience in doing that , sorry

for being legal, not sure on your laws......

To those who quoted me -

I meant I would not support selling any deer as pets which is what this ad appears to be doing. Deer are unlike horses, dogs, or other animals that are domesticated and that is why we don't have them as we do horses and such because they are far more on a wild level.

Raising deer in a proper environment for meat is one thing but for pets, well, that is not a great idea at all and promotes the idea to people that you can just obtain a deer and make a pet out of it IMO and I am a wildlife rehabber.

They were probably fallow deer being advertised. They have them in petting zoo's. I have tons of pictures of my kids feeding them at the catskill game park. They are like goats. This whole issue, I think was misunderstood from the beginning.

white tails are regularly sold by farms.

I don't think that most people should have deer as pets.....but that doesn't mean that no one should. I think the biggest reasons that deer are not kept as pets as regularly as other animals is 1. they haven't been domesticated as long (people don't realize they ARE domesticated), 2. they are naturally wandering animals and can jump incredible heights (most people can't afford an 8'+ fence), and 3. they generally require permits (that people don't want to mess with). As I said previously........I believe that there is no animal that everyone should have as pets, no person that should have every animal, and no animal that should not be kept by anyone. There are suitable owners out there for every animal.......for many species they are few and far between...but they exist. Like I said, I probably won't ever have deer...but if I ever have the proper environment for them I would LOVE to have them and I think they CAN make good pets for the right owners.......just like any other animal.

My grandparents had deer when I was young. Big John, a Doe, and when I was around 8ish, they had a fawn. Cutest thing, I bottle fed it every day in the summer. However, when they decided to build another house on their property of 40+ acres (which my grandpa had fenced in) Big John got really upset (after years of hand feeding and petting) and rammed my grandma into the foundation of the new home putting her in the hospital.

Although everything up until that point was sweet, to this day, I would hope we never come across a deer that needs our assistance, and most definitely would not purchase one.

I HATE when your trying to get something done and these WILD animals get in the way; or when you are trying to feed and these WILD animals keep eating out of the bucket.

The bottlefed buck is going to try and kill you, its the same reason you dont bottlefeed bulls and rams. They are male animals that will try and dominate you if they lose that fear of you. You cant make the argument that deer dont make good pets based on the male. Cows are great, bulls are not, ewes are great, ram are not ect ect.

Bottlefed does make splendid pets for people that like a deer for a pet. The biggest problem is fencing. Thats the only downside I can see. They are sort of like goats, but different. Like comparing rabbits to cavies really. Whitetail deer are domesticated animals. The permit is no big deal.
