Delaware x Buff Brahma Chick Hatched Today (Pic)

Sadly, and expectedly, the baby died about midnight. It just wasn't right inside. DH was giving it liquified egg yolk in water with an eyedropper to try to stimulate its appetite and it just would never try. Could be the organs were just too damaged in there. Makes me hope all the more that Caroline's chick under my broody hen makes it to hatch.

Thank you for asking.

I'm sorry your chick died. We can only hope for the other egg to hatch. We will just have to wait and see

Thanks. Crossing fingers for another Caroline baby. Caroline's recently departed "sister", Miranda, the Lt. Brahma, was head hen in the main flock. Now, Caroline is. I'd always say "No one, but no one, bosses the Brahma sisters!"

Caroline, seeing that she is a hatchery hen and is going on six years old now, probably won't be with us too much longer, so I would like to have one of her kids to keep, male or female.

I have a hard time parting with my old hens. My oldest bird died yesterday

. She was five years old and kind of just died all the sudden. now my oldest bird is I think three years old. My other hen got attacked by a hawk this year so my older hens are all dieing

Aw, geez, I'm so sorry! I've lost all of my original hens except for one, a Buff Orpington who is 6 1/2 now. She hasn't laid in maybe 18 months or so, but otherwise seems healthy enough. She just moves and acts like an elderly woman. I'll sure miss Sunny when she's gone.

Candled the eggs under my broody today. The only one that has good, clear veining and I'm sure of belongs to Caroline.

One other seems like it's a possibility belonging to my barred EE and one pure Delaware looks like the aircell is detached for some bizarre reason but probably developing, so I left it in there. Two others were very blotchy so I can't tell and though they are probably not fertile, I left them in there. Anyway, Nugget went from 9 eggs down to 5 on Day 6, but the Delaware x Buff Brahma is doing great. I sure hope it makes it to hatch since Nugget has never gone all the way to hatch and not ended up with a baby or two to raise. She's the best broody on the planet.
