Delawares from kathyinmo

Zanna, I'm glad that you are getting some chicks to hatch! Good to hear about Leslie & Marcy & Crazyhens, also. Fingers crossed for you, Tom! You need a better incubator.

I started some more today. Not sure one of the broodies is serious, though, so fingers crossed she stays put!

I think I'm about half way through incubating the first batch ... I'm not candling at all. It will be a surprise either way.

That is something best done with 2 people. I tried it alone, so photos not the best. I don't think any of these are what would be considered correct, since they weren't selected for color, yet. Birds will be a year old April 29.

Pullet W36

Pullet B10 Closest to correct in overall color

Cockerel R18

Pullet O37. Columbian marked. Gray undercolor.

Thank You. I did not intend for anyone to go through any trouble.

It does not surprise me that B10 has the best markings, or that O37 has a smutty under color. I am going to go back and look at the photos that you posted before. I want to see the tails again.

I do not know enough to comment intelligently.

Thank you again, and I hope that those photos were taken on my account.

Finnfur: When is lockdown?
It is scheduled for tonight.
My Incubator parts were supposed to be here last Friday but Fedex is giving them the USA grand tour at no extra charge.
They have been to Hagerstowm Md twice and have left Emporia Va last Friday. Its a 35 minute drive from here and they still not here.
Maybe they going back to Hagerstown for another night out. I could of walked them here from Emporia since Friday.
Its frustrating because I wanted to hatch/lockdown in the new homemade one.
All eggs are not same hatch date so I guess I need to take some turning racks out of foamy to make room .

Thanks for the "Goodlucks" we going to need them.

Gloria Jean
Fingers crossed for the Broody- Go girl.

Well, I am a bit disappointed.

My hen set great but the weather has been cold or hot or wet etc. Out of 7 eggs I have three active chicks. Two were stuck in their dried shells. With the humidity we have had here I did not expect that. One I helped out this morning but I am not sure it will make it. It would be num. 4. The three . that's out are running around everywhere. My Ameracuana hen is a sweety. so far she has not been a bit mean to me.

Oh, so sorry to hear!

Out of two hatches so far with 17 eggs total set, I've got 10 on the ground. Not a great %! 9 more on day 21 tomorrow night, no signs of any pips yet, only in the Marans. Two more sets in the incubator a week apart, not sure how many eggs in each but at least a dozen so we shall see. Pullets, I guess they are hens now, (got them from Kathy April 2nd), are back out free-ranging. They needed a break and so do I!

Well my bator parts finally arrived after a grand tour trip by FEDEX . At no extra charge I might add .With help of Wekiva via text and my Tech son we have it running- mostly- So 4/1 April fool set is in it.

After I locked down the other set last night in the Foamabator I looked at the calendar and actually lock down is tonight . So I have been turning by hand a little today since they are out of the turner.
We dropped one egg yesterday moving them and it looked like it terminated at about 7 /8 days. I am guessing as I am not expert by any means.
So we are down to 10 of the Kathy line still cooking of that batch.

The chick that was so weak yesterday that I had to help hatch, is up and running today. I exp. it be gone by morning for sure. Its eyes would not open nor could it stand last evening. I set 9 orig. but only 6 were left after the first three days. The hen kicked out 3, I checked and they were not fertile. 4 out of 6 fertile eggs is so-so for a hatch. I can not believe I have 4 bouncy fuzzy butts now. Even more surprising is the ameraucana hens attitude. She lets me pet and rub her, something she would not do before.
I,m visiting the mtn home this week and cleaning up the coops for my flock. May, I will head up there for the summer and fall. Yeh!!!!
