The wee Monster has a new Trick for Halloween and Beyond. (think in the tone of buzz lightyear - to infinity and beyond!)
Now when the gate opens he FLIES from the back of the brooder onto my HAND! Needless to say the other infant ROOS found that display exceedingly INTERESTING and saw it as a challenge. Now, I have THREE of the lead cockerals Flying onto my hands the moment i get the door open!
The resulting chaos delights the little beast no end, so while I'm getting the others back inside he walks happily up to my shoulder to pick at my hair.
At this point he's actually SAFER than two of the others. One looks to be a pullet and the other a cockeral - both of them are quite aggressive with the others and to me. They now have names, Noodle and Dumplings. The pullet because darn if she can't disrupt the entire bunch almost constantly. And the cockeral because when I'm trying to handle him he tries to peck HARD, he also does a lot more of the fighting and displaying.
With what appears to be at least 9 cockerals in the group, there is no chance that Noodle is going to make it past 4.5 pounds. I like a 3lb chicken for two people.
Dumplings will be given the opportunity to reform until she reaches the same weight.
Dharma fits the sauce pan just fine. The chicken parades, sigh, aren't getting any simpler to lead. Parades, my butt, it's a random horde run now. Some of it winged.
He's lucky someone stepped up to shift my focus from a face full of winged rebellion and the cheeky assumption that I need a baby Roo on my shoulder in order to get things done around here.
We get the older pullets next weekend, and the cochin Roo on the 23rd. Soon these wee tyrants are going to meet some full sized birds and get taken down a notch.
