Diamond Dove Mating?

I have two doves and discovered their sex only by the mating ritual. My female wants nothing to do with my male and he is tearing up her feathers something awful. Is she really a female? Could they be confused? lol or is this normal and what do I do? I have separated them to give her a break but then of course all they both want is to be together.

How long had they been together? I think you were wise to separate temporarily. I don't have any experience with them but the link below seems to have good info.... Best of luck! They are pretty little birds.
