I hope he'll get some Corid somewhere tomorrow. I'm starting to think that is something for the "rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it" box.

Shopping list for chicken drugs

Amprolium (corid) - for coccidiosis
VetRx - colds, croup, scaly legs and a de-stresser
Oxytetracyclin (Agrimycin) for resp illnesses
Sulfamethoxine (Dimethox) for just about anything and my "go to first" drug - including coccidiosis and resp infections

I have only had to give one treatment of dimethox when a chicken developed a runny nose. stopped symptoms instantly

bactim or septra is sulfamethoxine - often used in humans for UTI. pet shops sell it for fish tanks. you could open capsules and disolve in water

I would at Vetrycine for wound and umbilical treatments.

Doug-hope the milk flush helps your chicks. Even with that get the corid solution and mix in the water of everyone who has been with the sick ones. Cocci is one of those that one minute they are fine and the next sitting in one spot with their neck drawn in. On feathered chicks the feathers look fluffy. Msg me if you need dosage. I think Sumi covered it.

Broody failure. I found a dead chick laying next to her momma. Checked her umbilical and it was still wide open. Thinking broody helped her a little too aggressively.

Broody had yolk and blood on her beak. Egg shell was not found. This is the same broody that I found the empty shell by the other day. So her eggs are in the bator and she was kicked out to the yard. I am off to wal-mart for baskets for the bator for the hatching eggs. Oh and a kiddie pool for the kids. Maybe me too. Stinkin hot today.

Doug- Msg me if you want cocci treatment info. Been there done that and it was not fun. But treatment is quick and effective.

Quote: I mixed I quart 18% medicated starter to 1 quart milk and 1/2 cup plain yogurt. I fed all the chicks. They aren't thrilled with it. But some are nibbling at it. #5 chick is almost dead and I should put it down but my wife would prefer I let them die naturally. I tried to give it some sav a chick by syringe and put it outside in the sun inside the brooder that im going to clean if it dies with some of the mix at its beak. I dipped its beak into the mixture and it seemed to swallow. Its just to far gone. They go downhill quick. I have one other chick that is starting to show signs with the rest of the bigger chicks but I don't have anywhere else to move it. If #5 dies, I will move it to that brooder. So far its slow acting. I did see the chick with the flock poop a tan runny substance. But it has been acting weird for longer than the others.

Taking a snapshot of this on my phone and picking up everything tomorrow.

#5 passed. Brooder is scrubbed and drying in the sun. Any sick looking chicks are going in it with sav a chick in the water and the mixture for feed.

I was wondering. Would they eat it better if it was dry milk?

I am trying to build a chicken math app for android add all your chickens minus roosters minus non laying pullets minus chicks minus any grow outs minus 10% loss due to future predators or illness minus any you have for sale minus those you are thinking about selling minus any selected for freezer camp calculate how many you have left, calculate the average number of eggs those chickens give you, reduce the subtotal by the fraction. That's REALLY how many chickens you have!! You can further reduce by 40-60% if you have bantams.
LOL! A little late, Oz, but with that logic, I'm in the negative! Goody... that means I can get more chickens!

For the Dimethox do you suggest the injectable or the powder and what dosage? I just saw that Jeffers has it but don't know if they would send it to Canada.
