Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Okay so as long as Aircell's look like they should at lockdown humidity can be higher even if you are dry hatching. This is helpful to learn:) I don't like to see them too sticky to get out of their shells especially after they have done all of the work to zip!
This is why the obsessed hatchers weigh eggs. If you are at 13% at lockdown - you are good to go.

I have been experimenting with not boosting humidity on shipped eggs till day 19 but last time I cut it fine. I ended up being not prepared and put a tupperware into the bator to boost the humidity. I had been using hovabators but this was the Farm Innovators style and it would not take my tall water container. While the hatched chicks were drying, one got over the top of the container and drowned.

Lesson learned.

FINAL COUNT ~ 4 splash, 1 black, 1 blue Amercauna & 1 Infertile, 4 malposition
(1 splash saved after pipping wrong end, others died in shell because they couldnt pip through wrong eng, she is drying off below)

and 2 black cochin in this brooder with some of them....

uPDATE ON BUBBA black cochin.... STARTING TO WALK BETTER, only found twice on his side today, but its been a loooooong night again!
YAY!!! So many chickies! How are you going to house them all?!?!
And YAY for Bubba!!!

So, news...I'm not sure if it's good news or bad news...so it's just news.

The hatch at my daughter's school was not planned very well on the teacher's part. The timing is a bit bad. The hatch is scheduled to happen over spring break. I probably should have clued into this, but i'm so bad at dates. So, I'll be transporting the eggs home (in the bator of course) next friday and hatching them here. I'm going to set up a ustream web channel for the kids. The school is less than 5 minutes from my house, so I'm not *too* worried about transporting them in the middle of incubation. The incubator won't have time to cool off.
So good news: I get to watch over the hatch
Bad news: the kids don't :(
Oh, that stinks!

I have good news on my eggs!
It's day 13-14 today, and yesterday I candled the eggs and I have 8 BEAUTIFULLY developing eggs in the 'bator. Last time I incubated they were all delayed and a few days behind developing compared to where they should have been, but this time they are exactly like the pictures online! (the good, example pictures) I had 2 that were infertile. I had two eggs on shelves in the incubator that I was testing to see if they would grow better than the ones on the floor, (since they were higher, they were more warm) and one of those was infertile as well, and the other one on the shelf I think died at day 7.(I still have it in there though, but it is not moving and is just a day 7 looking bean) But all the ones on the floor are developing AMAZINGLY and I am so surprised!

When I candled one, all the veins appeared to be mostly on one side, so I could see almost the whole chick, and it was perfect!

I am so happy because I did not lose any of them that I expected to grow properly (aka the ones on the floor of the incubator). Note to self: never put eggs on shelves. (I didn't have any room for them on the bottom though.) I am really quite positive about these eggs!

So 8 still VERY good embryos!

On an unrelated note, Hope's wattles are getting BIG! :D It's so cute!

Omg yay that's awesome 3D! I'm so happy for you!!!!! I'm on day 20 for my eggs an I have one with an internal pip and I can hear her cheeping and pecking at the shell! Last time I candled all 19 were perfectly developed and the temp has stayed pretty constant around 100 with humidity of about 65%. She should be hatched by tonight or tomorrow morning I hope!!!!! :D can't wait to see all your chicks next week!!!

I am hoping at least a few of my eggs will be hatched by tomorrow afternoon cause I have a school dance at 7 and I won't be able to watch the chicks hatch!
