I would rig something before paying that for what it is my goodness!Anyone done anything with these http://www.strombergschickens.com/prod_detail_list/Starplate-Dome-Kit ?
oh never use ointment unless I assisted hatch, meaning freed the beak as the article says. Did I write that at the wrong stage in the article? I sure hope not!I just wanted to say hi, its been awhile since I have been on this thread.
I have made a discovery about Sally's bacitracin thing and I think its important to share. I had an egg that I thought was dead, so I opened the air sac and took the top of the shell off to try to determine COD. The chick was still alive, but it was shrink wrapped, so I bacitracined it to see how far along it was and decided that I wouldn't pip the membrane, I would just leave it because it was just a mess of active vessels.
Apparently, bacitracin doesn't let the membrane breathe because the membrane became even more shrink wrapped and the chick was dead within 8 hrs. I have switched to pure aloe juice instead of bacitracin. It wets the membranes without drowning the chick like straight water and as an added advantage, aloe is a surfactant, so it will facilitate more gas exchange than just a dry membrane.
Aloe juice (not the gel which has an alcohol base) can be obtained from aloe leaves or from Wal-mart in the laxative aisle. You can also give your birds some aloe juice when they have coccidia, it is really good at soothing tummies.
Quote: Most of these eggs are quite edible, though some can look quite unappetising, like the meat spots! If I know the the cause of the defect was a disease or drugs given to the hen I wouldn't eat them though.
I am so irritated with my brahma but the more I read the more I am thinking their blue tinted calcium deposits are a normal for my breed. I have don't EVERYTHING and every treatment and protein add and taken and oyster added and taken and know its nothing with health or feed. Just upsets me because I don't sell them like that and have to eat them! I don't know what else to do unless I write and explanation as to why my eggs have a few blue calcium deposits! uggggg

Sally have you hatched them with the deposits on them. If so I won't worry about it. As long as you are honest there shouldn't be a problem. Let the buyer beware and decide if they want to buy your beautiful birds.![]()
