Did anyone see Venus/sun today?

One of the lab techs set up a special telescope in the yard and everyone was having a squiz. It was only a little black spot on the sun but apparently it's not going to happen for another 107 (or was it 117?) years.

YES! My older son got us involved in our local astronomy club when he won a telescope from them in 5th grade. The club had a bunch of scopes set up, so we went to see the transit. As my 10 year old said, somewhat morosely, "This will probably be my only chance to see it." Pretty cool when you realize that the black dot is actually a planet! Saw lots of sun spots too. Didn't get to see the whole thing because the clouds came in.

Went and got burgers instead.

Although I think some of the pics in that link, with the clouds in front, are actually pretty epic. Thankfully the weather was very good down here, the sun took a few breaks inside the cloud cover but there wasn't much of it, and anyway we were streaming a live feed from Alice Springs in the physics room and the weather is always good up there.
