Did it again... I hate being the patient!

My son would break out in hives all over his body. I felt so sorry for him. I would try to not take him anywhere because some people in stores are just mean. So I tried to shield him from the stupid comments people made.

My daughter (6) is allergic to mosquito bites. If one bites her, the spot will immediatly swell to anywhere from 1" to 4" wide, turn very red, and feel so hot, it hurts your hand to just touch it. Just found that out about a month ago. Finally found a doc that thought outside the box. She has learned to "love" getting sprayed down with Cutter everytime she exits the door. Of course, it doesn't help that we live on a creek AND the highway department up here refuses to clean the ditch out up at the road. I am going to have to do that myself. Even though it is their responsibility..

You know, I never thought my reaction to bandaids was an allergic reaction. I also get red welps where the glue is on the bandaid. Sometimes, it even leaves a blister. Huh...Glad you posted that!

Whoohoo I helped someone, if accidentally.

Your DDs reaction to skeeters is what happens to my cousin with ants... it's SCARY. Not fatal, like some folks with bees for instance, but scary still. Have you ever seen the UBERskeeter repellent?

Like this... http://www.cabelas.com/p-0003894510198a.shtml

Random
Tidbits I've heard and/or use....

It's 98% deet... lasts 10 hours... and you don't need much. Good for HEAVY skeeter, tick etc areas, but for someone like your DD it might be worth it.

Skin So Soft lasts about 10 minutes, but does work for that 10 minutes.

Soybean Oil lasts for an hour and a half give or take.

Keep standing FRESH OR STAGNANT water at a minimum, that's what the wormy babies need.

Supposedly they don't like basil (pickiest plant on the planet) or Citronella/Citrus (IE lemon dish soap)

Those electronic skeeter buzzer jobbers are EVIL for anyone with good ears... sis and bro used to chase me around the house with one to try and cause a migraine.

Garlic supposedly makes them find a tastier meal.

Lemon Eucalyptus supposedly can help.

Permethrin based repellents works against all sorts of bugs, including head lice but it will kill your cat/fish... don't use it if you will come in contact with them. Don't treat your dog with it if you also have a cat, etc.

Saturday afternoon update.
Had to call in sick to work today. Doctor finally called me back last night, suggested an Epsom salt bath and meditation- kinda worked, for a while. I have an app on my phone that plays different sound frequencies for sleep, headache, meditation, etc. I played that while in the tub and that helped. I really like it for putting me to sleep- used to have to take a muscle relaxer every night, now I use the sounds and take 250mg of magnesium and I actually dream!

Pulse rate and BP have stayed down today, but the low back pain has REALLY intensified! I can't hardly sit in one place, it feels like my whole sacrum and pelvis is dissolving.
I took 2 percocet, 2 benadryl, 2 tramadol and a beer(NOT RECOMMENDED- just goes to show how much pain I'm in, I'm wide awake and breathing fine) and was able to help hubby work on the coop for an hour or so. Now I am writhing in pain trying to distract myself with the BYC. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have him wrap things up and take me in to work for a patient visit. I really think I am having a reaction to the steroid and it scares me that the bones might actually be being damaged. If anyone here has ever experienced bone pain I truly feel for you right now.

I need to keep my epi-pen with me more often, one of these days it will be my death.

Thanks for the reminder.

(Jan 2008 I became VERY allergic to Peanuts, Bananas and Avocados... all foods I loved previous.)

So sorry you are in so much pain. I hate having hives all over.

I bit the pool deck last night and I have the headache from hades. Any noise, light etc... just kills me and I have nothing more than ES Tylenol available.

I keep looking at my pupils, wondering if I have a CSF leak... feel like throwing up...

I'm also trying to distract myself with BYC because it's hotter than hades outside (105) and getting warmer in here by the minute.

I haven't graduated to epi-pens yet, but everytime I get stung by a bee or wasp the reaction only gets worse.
I keep the rapid melt Bennadryl in all the vehicles so that I always have some that I can take without a drink.
So you guys say you can get allergic to the Bennadryl too??? Ugh.
I have noticed that my reaction to it has changed over the years. Used to put me to sleep, out like a light, now it keeps me up and gives me the heebie jeebies

Ummm, Mahonri- with a headache like that you're probably ready for a CT scan. If you are vomiting at all, or still feel crappy tomorrow then you should go to the ER. (listen to me, can't think for myself but still giving advice.)

Hope you feel better soon- OUCH!

I developed most of my bad food allergies as a teen and now I'm slowly adding to the list, no seafood for me, no flax seed either so anything with omaga's or whole grains is out. I have a allergy to corn and wheat but I don't react that bad so I don't limit them. After I go through the whole wheezing stage I break out in itty bitty blisters millions of them, head to toe, it takes weeks for them to go away grrrr. I`m suppost to carry a epi pen but I`m not that organised though we do have a emergancy one in our van( not the best place). My kids so far only one can`t have chocolate and is allergic to mosqitoes to where one bite in the face makes him look like a monster and one wheat bothers her digestive system.

The Cutter I use on my DD has 23.8% DEET. Her doc actually said to not use anything that had more than 30% DEET in it. But the Cutter seems to work really well. I have a small ornamental pond w/goldfish in it that I keep a mosquito dunk in to kill the larvae. I also use 2 in the rain barrel. I try to keep an eye on anything that will hold water to make sure it stays empty (other than the pond/rain barrel) I have thought about sueing the state highway dept for not doing their job but since this winter was really bad and busted their budget, I decided to be nice and not do it. I am talking to a couple people to see if they will bring their backhoe here and clear the ditch out. It's a lot of ditch to clean...we live on 3 acres and the ditch runs the entire front of the land.

Thanks for all the info. I never thought about the lemon soap. And here we were in a Dollar Tree the other day and DD asked for some lemon soap and I told her no. Should've gotten it.

Mahonri--OUCH!!! I hope you feel better soon. I do agree w/NurseELB. If you are no better tomorrow morning (heck, I'd go to the ER tonight!) you should really get a CT scan. You could have a skull fracture or major concussion. I hope it's nothing serious..Good luck! Keep us posted on how you are doing.

NurseELB-I didn't know steroids could cause damage to your bones. I'm on a steroid now for poison ivy (I know..minor

) I hope you feel better soon too...

Sunday update:

Went to ER yesterday evening, I couldn't stand the pain anymore. Diagnosis: SOLUMEDROL ALLERGY! Apparently the steroids they injected into my backside are inflaming the bones/nerves. Just as I thought. So, new allergy on the list, at minimum never into a muscle again, only IV.

Continuing the prednisone (funny, steriods for steroid reaction) for a few more days for the pain reaction, benadryl and pepcid. Doc gave me dilaudid to take for a day or 2 in order to help with the pain, takes it from an 8 to a 3 at least. Tolerable.

Took today off too, obviously. At least I can fiddle around with the chickens and work a bit on the coop with hubby. Just hoping I can afford the mortgage next month with a whole week off work! ARRRGGGHHHH! I only work 2 days a week as it is because of my health, barely enough to make ends meet.

Thank you all for your support. You've made this disaster bearable knowing I'm not alone.
