Diesel son of Suede at 18 wks. He's HUGE

What breed is he? I have a pullet that looks a lot like him. I thought she was a black star until I read they have some brown on them. She is all black and has the most beautiful big eyes.

Diesel is a Black Orpington, the son of the rooster in my avatar. I bet you have a Black Australorp if it came from a hatchery. Hatcheries except for one or two of the much smaller ones, do not sell the Blue/Black/Splash Orps.

I have a Australorp and she is much smaller and slender compare to this one. This one is fluffy and big.
This first picture is the on I was told was an Australorp.

the next two picture are of the black one I have. They didn't look alike as chicks. this one was all black and the legs were all black. The Australorps legs were not nearly as black, although they are all black now.
This one is of her head.

NExt is her body. She has more roundish body than the other hen.

I thought until now she was a Black star but people say that the black sex links have brown on them. could she be a Jersey Giant? She is very friendly and really likes my 5 week old Australorps I put out in the house with them. they are in a sectioned off area but they can see each other. One of the roosters coaxed one of the little ones over and pecked it. She jumped on him and then layed down beside the pen. It was so funny. I have seen her laying by them often now. Strong mothering instinct it seems.

She could very well be a Jersey Giant. Only two hatcheries in the U.S. that I'm aware of sell Blue/Black/Splash Orps and they sell out quickly every year. Where did you get her? She's a pretty girl. Check the bottoms of her feet-yellow is JG, white is Orp

Australorps were the original design of the Orps back in the late 1800's. They were imported to lots of countries including the US but interest was lost in the early 1900's and then the type began to change in England but remained the same in the Australian ones thus the name and the breed.

I got her from Meyers. I don't think that blue Orps are one of their breeds. It is just when I say your picture it looked so much like my lady that I wanted to know what breed he was. I will check the bottom of her feet. do you know what color a black star's would be on the bottom?

I forgot to say I think he is wonderful. Is his disposition as good as he looks. He just looks sweet.

I wonder then what the difference between the Australorps and the Black Orpingtons. It is rather confusing.
