Differences EE, Ameraucana, & Araucana * Pls post pics*

That is a very pretty EE.

Not a very good picture of Valentino, but he has no wattles and reddish eyes, bluish black feathers underneath.

Well, I think I am beginning to understand EE and Americauna's. These are my two hens, and my recently acquired roo. They all have slate/black legs and I always thought the eggs were mint green, but I guess you all call them blue or blueish green. The black pullet was a rescue a friend finally caught in a trap in the middle of winter. They are so sweet natured and gentle. Let me know if I have this wrong.

I was at my local feed store and they had a bin of chicks labeled araucana & ameraucana . I would like to get some but I do not want the araucana chicks as I have read they are not docile . I run a child care and the kids will learn about and help feed the chicks so they need to be gentle breeds .

Is there a way to tell apart day old ( or week old ) araucana & ameraucana chicks apart .

The chicks they are selling are Easter Eggers (regardless of the label) - so you are at no risk of picking up a pure-bred Araucana. Additionally, the rarity of Araucana vs. Ameraucana makes it unlikely that the EE chicks are going to have Araucana parentage.

Unless you are buying from a breeder you are seeing Easter Eggers, which are usually very docile and gentle.

I wanted to order EE's from MyPetChicken, but they're sold out. So I placed an order at my feed store for EEs from Cackle. But I just noticed that Cackle's page says theirs only lay blue and green, and not X large, but MyPetChicken says theirs lay green, blue, and pink X large eggs 4 x per week. So, unless I read it wrong, I think I'll cancel my Cackle order and wait for MyPetChicken to get them in stock after June.

EE are EE - there is actually no one answer as to what to expect from EEs because of the very nature of EE. The incredible variety of breeds that *can* go into the mixed breed of an EE make any sort of prediction as to production, etc nothing more than guess-work. The only credible difference I see in the two descriptions is that MPC is being upfront about the fact that there is not a guarantee that they have inherited the genetic background to produce blue egg coloration - eg their statement that you *can* get an "EE" that would produce "pink" (a shade of brown/cream in actuality) or other egg colors than blue/green. *I* would not put enough stock in those two descriptions to make a decision as to source based just on the differences you see in those sentences.

Good point. I'm not sure what to do. So many possible roads to take in chickenland...
