I doubt its a ferret.... its more likely a fisher. You really should kill it. If you cannot do it, call the police and tell them you need it taken care of. Good luck buddy!

I haven't done this, but if I was mad enough I might (and what has happened to you guys qualifies). Trap it in the Hav-a-heart trap, then submerge the whole thing in water and drown it.

If it's a Fisher cat, they are nasty!! I was told once when we were camping to beware of them cause they would kill small to medium sized dogs that were tied up! We kept our beagle in the tent with us, but we heard the darn fisher cats thrashing around in the bush even though we had a campfire going. Hope you catch it soon before it does more damage!! Best of luck. Sorry for your loss too.

Hi guys, this is Aran's wife Audra here. I just got home from evening shift at the hospital, spent all daytime trying to make the coops safer, and we thought they already were.

Aran left this open when he went to bed, and just wanted to pop in the fact that i would NOT protest to Aran getting a gun for this....well, can't swear on the forum, he may be an alien, but i am a citizen and also a hunter's daughter who has shot a gun since 5yo, need some target practice i think.

I also looked at the pic of the Fisher cat, i only saw the back end and tail of it (while putting up the wire, the cheeky thing) and i described it to aran as looking like a small/stray cat. I didn't think it could be the one to do the damage, but Aran said he saw the same animal INSIDE the coop this evening.

We have two cats and i'd hate for them to be accidently let out by our little guy and end up in the trap, would make things many times worse, so might look into the gun thing afterall....i am soooooo mad. Sad turned to anger today.....yeah, you may need to eat dude...but NOT MY CHICKENS!!!!

Yea, those little animals don't really LOOK like they could do much damage but they really are fierce hunters and meat eaters. So I am certain thats what it was.

We have weasels, stoats, minks, wild ferrets all of those here in the country, I see them now and then when driving.

I bought my hubby a gun too, come from hunting family as well. He is the one that uses it, he just cant BUY it. Funny you can buy a hunting license when your a legal alien, but not a gun. You would think after a certain time of being here and not being a troublemaker, you would qualify.

Also a havaheart trap shouldnt hurt your chickens if they go in it, unless they would panic or something. People accidentally catch their chickens all the time in them, and my girls have investigated mine as well.
