Disaster Averted-We got chicks and PICS!

*grin* i didn't know what a showgirl was until a couple months ago. Folks on this board were chatting about them, and i had never heard of them.

They're supposed to have those naked necks. When they grow up they look like aliens. Do a search on showgirls on this forum, and i bet someone will have pics.

Oh, "therealsilkiechick" has a website with some nice pictures. Look here: http://www.picturetrail.com/homepage/keystone_bantams

The
showgirls are the silkies with naked necks.

Your Silkies are very pretty, I dont know about those naked necks though, then again the first time I saw a modern game I said I would never own one of them and now I love them. Well, any more progress with the babies??

Hi Tiki244 - Those aren't my silkies. That's a website of another member. They are pretty, huh. Now, those modern games are certainly interesting looking. They look so funny with those long legs.

There is progress on the eggs. Lot's of chirping, but just the one pip.

i hadn't planned on hatching eggs in the middle of winter while we have our house on the market, getting ready to move. Thought my broody hens would do it all. Those scoundrels!

Just helped chick #3 out of her egg. It's a white silkie. There was a lot of blood, which made me nervous. But she pipped at the wrong end of the egg yesterday and made no progress since. She's very weak, but looks fine, yolk sac absorbed. i think i did the right thing (although i hate making those big decisions).

i have four eggs left. No pips, but one of the eggs chirped yesterday.

Congrats on the chicks! It sounds like your doing good and I'm glad you were there to rescue them from the hens!

And we have another showgirl! i had to help this one out, too. It pipped and the beak was out, but it couldn't seem to move to zip. i wasn't going to wait until it was as weak as my other little silkie, so quickly chipped around the shell, softened the membrane with warm water (it was totally dried out). No blood at all this time. She pushed out of the shell in my hand (i just love that!).

Plus, the silkie who i helped out previously is doing better. She was so weak and flailing. Couldn't get up on her feet. It was killing me watching her struggle, so i quickly opened the bator and pushed her up on her feet. She did okay, then fell over again. One more gentle shove from me and now she is able to stay on her feet herself. i get the impression it's not good for them to be laying on their side, because now that she's upright, she looks great.

This is so exciting! And, i miscounted, i have two more eggs to go, but don't see any pips. If this is all my hatch, i am very happy. Four white showgirls and a white silkie.
