Disposing of coop cleanings in The 'Burbs?

Sweet PDZ is a granular substance that was developed primarily for horse stalls. It absorbs moisture, trying out the waste and therefore keeping the odor down. I use it in our coop and it's awesome! I believe another name for it is Stall Dry. It's safe for animals. When we change out the litter in the coop (it's only 4' x 5') I sprinkle maybe a cupful around. As the chickens scratch and walk on it, it gets sort of stirred around. It keeps that coop smelling sweet for a month or more. We don't have poop boards, but if we did, I'd use it on them. DE is diatomaceous earth, yes. I put perhaps 1/4 c in with fresh litter and a wee sprinkle in their dust bath as well. It will absorb some moisture, but the primary purpose for me is to keep mites at bay. It's safe to ingest, but not to inhale, so I'm very careful about it and make sure it's well mixed in with either the litter or dirt so it doesn't billow and get inhaled.

PDZ is zolite a natural mineral that has the property of neutralizing ammonia. It comes in the form of Stall fresh or a name like that and is used for horse stalls to keep the amonia down. Works like a charm in thecoop. Between the DE and the PDZ the poop is coated and easy to scoop. And best of all no smell.

I live right in the city and i dispose all mine in a compost bin. I have 2 bins. 1 i add this years chicken waste and any organic kitchen waste. and the other is one that has been sitting the entire summer and winter. By spring i will add that compost to my gardenand let the other one sit and start over again in the empty one. It is good to turn the compost atleast 1 a week.

Ditto, I live in the city and have a compost bin. Since starting a deep litter method I don't have many shavings going into the bin. I usually rake out the big chunks of poop and deposit in the compost bin. Occasionally I will clean out part of the shavings, add to compost bin and add more shavings to coop. I can tell you that my compost bin doesn't smell but my neighbors trash can stinks to high heaven in the summer from her dogs poop! I can't wait til I harvest my cabbages and brussel sprouts this fall so I can take all that wonderful compost and add to my garden for the winter!
