I didn't see this until now, but she is still alive, i'll get the amoxicillin tomorrow and start that. she is eating and drinking sparingly. I'm still treating her for the sour crop as well as I believe she has both illnesses. that seems to be getting better. Her poo is becoming more solid, crop not as balooney. this morning it was much less so, tonight it was bigger though.

OK, I got the amox yesterday, I gave her a dose right away, then again last night, and one today so far. She is out with the other girls. she seems to be doing ok, Hopefully the sour crop is gone, her crop is flat, which is good and bad. Good in that it is no longer ballooney, bad as she is not eating a whole lot, if anything. I brought her in to give her her meds, then I put her down in the cage for awhile to cool off (it is 92 outside, which is way hotter than it has been so far this year in MN) and hopefully eat something. But she made noise and was not happy and wanted to go back out. I take that as a good sign as I've noticed in the past with other sick chickens, if they are sick, they don't make noise, but when they are feeling better, they let you know. I know the amox probably isn't working yet, but her sour crop may be cleared up so she feels better. Hopefully. Do you all know how many days I should do the antibiotic?

Don't get rid of chickens after a couple of years. Mine are 3 now and laying better than ever! I get 3-5 a day now!

X2 on what casportpony, Kathy, said on the length of time. The general rule for antibiotics is to go 3 days past ALL symptoms. So just keep an eye on her. IF at any time during the use of antibiotics, the crop gets all doughy, you will have either stop the antibiotics or also treat the doughy crop. Yeasts tend to go wild when antibacterial drugs are given. Sulfadimethoxine is a fun antibiotic because it has anti yeast properties along with being an antibiotic.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that doughy crop. She started eating and drinking a little today on her own. not much, but a little is better than nothing. I also fed her some babyfood with a syringe again. I've been putting her out with the other girls during the day, she seems to be doing good out there, preening, interacting, and stuff.
I do bring her in at night and put her in a crate so that I can give her meds in the morning, and examine her and her poo for changes.

Give the meds time to work. You should see some change by day 3 or 4. If not by 5, the current meds arent going to be the answer.

2 days ago she wasn't eating much as mentioned above, I tried feeding her some rice and hamburger, she gobbled it up (mostly just the rice). She had food in her crop last night at bed time, a good sign. She also dust bathed yesterday (Hen cam), and I caught her sun bathing on the Hen cam today. I work all day so I have a web cam in their run to keep tabs of the girls. I've been bringing her in at night to keep an eye on her. Her poo is back to normal, no longer runny. It is going well, we are on day 6 with the antibiotics. I let her sleep outside with the girls last night. Fingers crossed!
