Not all Marans have feathered legs. Out of the ones we've got now, Wilma has clean legs, and two of the juvie roos have clean legs, one has a few feathers, and Flappy has loads of feathers. They collect poop like crazy.

The British standard says no feathers on the legs

the French standard says feathers on the leg, a line of feathers down the outer leg and outer toe

The US adopted the FRENCH standard

The US adopted (all official and APA and everything) maybe 4 years back.... so it is new

As to color on the Black Copper....

you want some copper on the neck of the females, but no where else.

On the male, no copper on the breast.... the copper on the neck is supposed to be the same shade from the top to the bottom. A large difference on color from top to bottom means wheaten influence.

No white at the base of the tail , and I can't remember the tail angle.....

But the black in the Black Copper and the Black Marans is always supposed to be gorgeous and shiny with lovely colors, especially in the sun. And yes, the Rooster tail feathers get the super shiny almost green color.
