Dixie Chicks

I haven't heard of Black Marans separately, I thought there was just Black Copper. And that not all of them have the copper colored neck. But I really haven't paid much attention to any standards, I just like healthy birds that lay pretty and tasty eggs.
 
My hens are completely black and my rooster is a color mess. Uneven hackle and saddle color, white at the base of the tail and tail is too high. At least his breasted is clean!

Look on the bright side, you can still breed to the standard with those birds. Most people don't think so, but I do. It's just a matter of correcting the coloring in future gens. Or something like that that actually sounds correct since I can't convey thoughts properly.

I'm not complaining, they were free. He even gave me hatching eggs from his better stock. I really just want to make Oliver eggers but I can work on these too. I've cleaned up genetic messes before.
