Another point is probably that chickens are social animals, and that law is supposed to keep people from buying a single chicken and keeping it alone. I think regulation is a useful tool for many things, but it is often used in the wrong way. I didn't like it when they forbid smoking in bars and restaurants, but after seeing the effects for a couple of years, I have to say it was a good thing. I also think firearm registering is a good thing. But then there are some laws I just don't understand. Like when I worked nights, if I wanted to buy beer while shopping for food in the morning, I had to go to the store after 9. Because it's illegal to sell alcohol in stores between 21 and 9. A much more efficient law would be not to sell to people who are clearly intoxicated. That's forbidden too, but I'd say the clock thing just makes life more difficult for normal people.

Here alcahol regulations vary from State to State and county to county within the state. Technically last call for Alcahol is 2 am in San Diego

Last Call Laws World Wide

Sales in Grocery stores or liquor stores Now this one is an eye opener for me

In California they cant sell alcohol anywhere from 2 AM to 6 AM.

Vehve, same here, stop selling at midnight and can't buy until after 8am.There is actually one 'dry town' next to us that has no booze for sale.
It used to be a law that liquor stores had to close on Sundays, and they are the only place you can buy wine. It was funny going into a liquor store on Saturday, bunch of old people stocking up on wine, apparently senior citizens really like wine Lol! Now they just have to close one day of the week. In Pennsylvania beer is only sold in outlets, none in stores or gas stations. I was shocked when we went to Florida the Family Dollar store had beer and wine, grocery stores had hard liquor!

Yeah deb, counties are different here, ours stops at midnight, but I can go across the river and buy it until 1am. Bars here have to close at 3:30am.

I never heard of different alcahol laws till I was in my late twenties.... Company I was working for was sold to a Utah based corporation.... eventually they decided to move our company to UTah because it was cheaper overhead there.

My company gave everyone plane tickets to go investigate Salt Lake City to see if they would consider moving with the company... So I got two plane tickets and hotel room to go visit. Long story but around dinner time, I took a friend with me, Leslie and I went to the restaurant in the hotel.

In order to have a glass of wine with dinner I had to go out to the hotel lobby and to the "Package Store" and buy a bottle of wine and take it to the restaurant... There I was not allowed to open my own bottle the Waiter was required to do it. He then explained there was a Corkage fee... So they charged me one dollar to open a bottle of wine I bought from a government store.... and I couldnt pour it he poured it.

There are night clubs in Salt Lake City and alcahol is consumed there. But you have to pay to join the club for the year and you bring your own alcohol to be stored for consumption at the club.... They do not sell alcahol in the clubs... I forget the rest of the set of rules. but there were a few clubs that would sell tourists a short term membership.

What is a good German meal to cook? Kristas dad was German. Her mom is coming tomorrow and we want to cook a German meal in his honor.

Idk about a full meal, but eggs with mustard sauce is a yummy german dish... had a german exchange student friend and her mom came to visit over summer and made it... :)

well, the easiest one is a shot glass, fill with the schnapps of your choice, take a slice of greasy sausage (one with lots of liver in it) balance that on the rim of the shot glass (sometimes a toothpick is needed to hold it there) and add a small dab of mustard on top of the sausage slice.

Other than that..... meat medallions (beef or pork or venison, but they really like pork), swimming in cream sauce, potatoes how you like them on the side (but usually not baked, more typical German choices would be: 1. mashed, 2. cubed and fried in a pan, 3.or done like tiny new potatoes with a bit of butter and parsley), and some sauerkraut.

You can do a regular cream sauce, or cream sauce with peppercorns or a light bit of garlic with the cream sauce, also, you can add sliced mushrooms if you like. The Germans eat mostly the regular mushrooms that you see in American grocery stores, but also love these skinny tiny "wild" mushrooms... no idea what those actually are.

Germans also go crazy over asparagus... is it in season down where you are right now? They like both white ones and green ones, and with hollandaise, but they also like doing a creamy asparagus soup.

How about bratwurst and sauerkraut if you wan't something simple? Out of Alpine foods, my favorite is raclette. It's more fun on a raclette grill, but oven taters with cheese on them works nicely too. Appenzeller is a great cheese for that.

Here, the stores are allowed to sell beer, cider and mild beverages from 9 to 21, as long as it's below 4.8% alcohol. Bars can sell whatever their liquor license lets them (some can't sell hard stuff, only beer and wine) from 9 to either 1:30am or 3:30 am depending on the license, and they must close half an hour after last call. Alko, the state own monopolized liquor store chain can sell stronger alcohol between 9 and 20 on weekdays, and 9 and 18 on Saturdays, nothing on Sundays.

Horses aren't allowed to be kept alone here either, they must have an accompanying animal, but it doesn't have to be a horse, a goat will do too, or a cow or something else.
