Dixie Chicks

Good morning all! FRIDAY!!! Was busy yesterday and got a lot done. Still a lot to do, but isn't there always. Chicks are growing big quick. Well, gotta get ready for work and little girl off to school. How's the weather there? It has frosted out there, again, and we have a freeze warning. Hopefully it won't rain again. I'll try to post some pics sometime this weekend of the yard/lake. It is ridiculously wet out there. You all have a good day

Good Morning!

@vehve Good news on the bunny babies!

It took so long picking up branches and doing errands that I only got started with the mowing yesterday. I'll get it finished this afternoon. I did get a pic of the Easter HAL chicks with their Icelandic mommas......I've got my priorities straight!

Have a great day everyone!

Tires changed, and dogs walked! Next we're going to go run some errands, need to find some patio chairs finally to go with the table that's been sitting there for two years now. And I'll buy some cement to try and make some hempcrete pots for the 'maters, and later the living room table needs to be poured too. In the evening I'll go out and eat with some friends.

Hilma hasn't been in to feed the babies all day again... Either she does one feeding around midnight, and one more sometime in the morning before we go out, or then they're only on one feeding per day. I'm really starting to consider getting a trail cam... But that might be a bit extravagant.

The broodie mommas are both producing new feathers in there, so I'm hoping they're rejoining the laying flock in a few weeks. The new feathers are about an inch tall now, so still a way to go. By then the chicks will be about 6 weeks and can probably fend for themselves. The chicks are now 3½ weeks, and still only the wings are feathered. No clear boys visible yet either, so here's hoping they're all girls. They do all seem slightly skittish, so that could actually imply future egg layers. Most of our boys have been a lot braver already as chicks.

Good Morning!
We have another cloudy wet day here. So much for free ranging the chickens and cleaning the coop, but my stubbornness might just allow me to do that anyway.

I have been watching my eggs trying to ensure they turn. Well they don't....

any advice? Thinking either a) the eggs are too big and don't touch the bottom to turn or b) the ground is too slippery and the eggs just slide when they are supposed to turn.

My thumb hurts. I hyperextended it yesterday and holy cow its swollen...
Glad your getting stuff done Felix . That feels good. Outpost weather is good enough here, some stuff has little leafs starting :D

Anyone ever deal with mites? If so what did you use? And I'm in Canada and can't get most things I've read about... Any how only one hen appears to have them to any degree, need to strip the coop and hose it out then spray it down, and treat my flock...
Crap my thumb hurts!

Turn by hand or tilt the whole incubator the way a Brinsea octagon works...

I have read ivermectin. 2 treatments a week apart. 2nd treatment would kill everything that hatches after the first. Would be less stressfull then bothering the bird everyday plus it deworms them. That's just what I've read not sure how true that is. Make sure your coop gets a good clean!!

Can I get invermectin here BC? Like at the Feedstore?
It's weird I keep a hell of a clean coop, not clean enough it seems. I'll have to hit the duck thread, invermectin goes in the water right? Don't want to O.D. The ducks... Or does it come in other forms??
