So, Here I am at 12:53am I haven't been to bed yet. Why? It's hatch day! The crazy day that we all, being of sound mind & rationality, patiently wait 21 days for and then on the very last day, WE COME UNGLUED! I am freaking out. It pipped! Is it still alive? What is going on inside your freaking shells? Why aren't you coming out???? I am peeping to them. We also have a toy I bought at easter of a little chicky which peeps. Shining a flashlight on them, talking to them. GET OUT OF THERE!!! Maybe I am scaring them

So far I have 3 out of the shells. 2 mix mutts & 1 EE. Several have pipped. I am getting a headache from being up so early and not going to bed. I think I'll try to catch a couple hours of rest.

For the record @bamadude , I am a constant skipper-on several threads. Just sue me.

I am getting close to getting a hammer and smashing all eggs.

After my last orders, I will NEVER EVER EVER again hatch Marans to order (other breeds yes, Marans, no).

I think I have 20 something eggs in there... HOW MANY HAVE HATCHED????? 2, TWO marans.

I cracked one to peep inside, and it looks alive, but it looked like it needed 3 more days, DAYS!!!

There is no way that I spaced out and put eggs in three days after the first set of eggs... I mean really, am I THAT insane??? (answer, yes, of course I am, but I really didn't think I did that... I asked kid #3 that labeled all of the eggs for me with Xs and Os... and he said that maybe 1 day apart, but not 3 days or a week.

I dunno... JUST INSANE

I now hate eggs and hatching and all cute and fluffy chicks... they are disgusting alls of fluff put on this earth to give us coniptions.

JWB, good luck on the hatch. I don't understand the being nervous part though. What happens, happens, and it's just a waiting game.

Al, you should try hatching the Marans eggs under a broody. Maybe there's something you're doing wrong for them with the 'bator.

So, my trail camera experiments failed for the night, I had it angled a bit too high so I could only see Hilmas top part as she opened up the nest a bit before midnight yesterday. Now I've got it angled better, and with a side view. Hopefully she will check the nest in the noon again today, like I think she did yesterday. A daytime shot of her kits would be nice.

@AlaskanI'm having the same luck with my Swedish flowers. I can't get my humidity low enough in the incubator for them.

I don't have the gadget to measure humidity. I have a borrowed Styrofoam incubator with a turner tray in it. The plugs are missing and the thermometer is a flat flimsy thing that came with it. I make sure the water wells are filled once a week & especially in Lock down. I put a wet washcloth in there & periodically wet it when I'm removing chicks.

So far we have 1 EE, 4 mix. One of the mix looks just like a SS chick. (Striped and looks like a chipmunk

). Several more are pipping.

@vehve , I know "Que Sera, Sera". And I am not a control freak.....arguable, but it's kind of like I am 6 years old or something on hatch day! I FREAK OUT!

Marking that little EE with a leg band was much harder than I anticipated. Little bitty feet, big scissors, not a good combination....
