I think it is just that he was a Marans... and Marans are a crappy breed that always keel over and die whenever they feel like it.


The Marans rooster before him (not related) also just keeled over and died one day... but I think he hadn't been fed enough.


Oh, I asked kid #3 if he would do a necropsy for me... (most "hunting" type kid) he said not unless I commanded. I said nah, no command, don't bother.

Al, I'm just hoping for the lesser evil, I hope you don't have anything going around there. But if no other birds seem affected, it's unlikely.

The AI issues in the States are bad enough to have reached the Finnish news threshold, so my mind is making up scary issues. Luckily you're quite far from the continental US. Any migration routes that take birds from the main continent to Alaska this time of the year?

Me... me be bummed.

My Marans rooster (yes, the Marans, the perpetual headache that is also the only breed that has made me money this year)... was found outside of his pen this morning, on the ground right outside the duck pen, dead... but with no visible wounds.


I am not sure what happened. His corpse looked perfect.

I am also not sure how he, and one other hen, got out of the vegetable garden.

I saw them last night, ......

I am going to see if I can get a rooster back from all of the chicks that I sold this spring... we shall see.

did you do a necropsy... maybe he had something wrong with him that caused the fertility issues....

Stupid! I ordered quail eggs with no quail egg trays. Ordered 1 from ebay. Hopefully it gets here before the dang eggs.
