@RavynFallen, mmmmm, lizards. We tried to feed the chickens a little baby field mouse that just got fuzz on it last night. You would of thought we killed them.

Forget the idea of swapping calls for her eggs. They're hatching, a day early I think.

Omg! The hatch has started! One external pip and I hear tiny little peep peeps from the eggs!

The pip is on the small end of the egg..
Glad I went to raise the humidity a d take the egg cradle now!

I don't have a misting bottle so just put a water drop on the pip, hopefully caught it early enough.

Oh, crud! :/

I thought the duck was gonna freak when the lizard wiggled and drop it... nope, swallowed it down fast... then chewed it when it came back up...

Go duckies!!! Watch that pip... is it clear to breath?

We had a roadrunner on our backyard that has figured out our garden is full of delights. Quite the hunter! I saw it catch a toad, bring over to the patio and bash the thing to beyond a pulp for about 10 minutes. The other day it got a field mouse...didn't do the bash job on it. Normally it stands nearby as I water waiting for the lizards to scale the wall. Knowing its proclivities, when the quail's nest was orphaned I knew I couldn't just leave them -- no "Lion King" circle of life music here -- to become roadrunner snack, so they came inside for incubation. My CCL, Lucy, looked like a red roadrunner (and ran like one in the coop) so it's not a big leap that chickens will eat mice and whatever else....ducks, too. A litttle bit o' protein. Wouldn't want to watch the reptile-being-regurgitated scene, though.
