I had geese free ranging every day one summer... I did lock them up at night. Nothing ate any.... I was kinda surprised, I thought that I would loose at least one... But didn't.

I think what helped lots is that I had 6 .... 6 geese are scary enough to chase off little dogs

I meant also I'm not going to feed fox, racoons, mink, I don't eat those. I didn't eat a lot of my ducks, yeah they're yummy, I more just liked having them around. I'm only interested in free ranging them in my pond. I was thinking cotton patch geese would be ideal for me, to big for fox, and very predator warry and like wild geese they can fly from a standstill. They are $$$ though.
ah, I reread. I must have skimmed the first time, or I wasn't awake yet.

Maybe if you raised the geese with the chickens? Then they would protect them?

But then what if the gander or tom tried to mate with your hens!!!! (Always my fear... Smashed flat girls)

Dog is an indoor dog, he's chased the fox off property once bc (Before Chickens) and he stayed away for a long time after that. The sheep wander over the entire 4 acres so they wouldn't notice it from the far end. Plus I think they respect the fox enough to run, he's been in a stand off with them before.
