@perchie.girl , you are up early............or stayed up real late.

Good morning! I got up late. Too much happenings were going on this weekend and now I'm wiped out.

But work is calling my name. Dang work. Totally ruins my social life.

Thanks for all the advice on the cars. We are weighing our options.

As I sit here this morning drinking my coffee, & catching up I can hear 2 hawks out there. There are probably waiting for the pullets to break out. Those chickens are like Houdini. But when I watch them, they will not escape. The light brahmas seem to be the main escapees. Another 2 months and they will be big enough to go to the big coop.

I'd better get ready & off to work. You all have a great day

My cruze has been an awesome car in every aspect until this computer BS with the sensor. Oh, I think the exhaust is overheating, SHUTDOWN! Blech.

@ApiaryandAviary, honestly I like my.ancona for meat ducks the best. They really don't take that much longer to reach butcher wright and I think they taste better than oekin. As far as chickens go for butcher, you're not going to find anything faster than a Cornish rock cross. Plus you will know in the back of your mind that once they reach a certain weight
they have to go or you'll have to dispatch then due to broken legs. That's your main downfall to Cornish rock X
Thank you we have 4 older Anacona, 2 drake and 2 hens and they had some hatchlings and most my hubby cleaned out there house and ranked everything on the burn pile to get rid of the eggs bc he said He would rather I not do anymore baby chicks right then. There were 3 that hatched, 2 drakes and1 hen. Yes they do grow fast. Our son was in the hospital when they were hatched (he still
Is but was home for about week) and we returned home one day to carnage, ok may have exagerated some. The older two males beat up the two young males still turning from yellow to white and the little girl got caught between their house and fencing and got pecked at. We thought her wing was broken and stripped of feathering abd bleeding but after some time it was better. They recovered some what. They are still afraid and we keep them locked up in a 10x20 run with 4 empty chicken houses in it. The older four are still Dominate and the two older drakes are still Mean. They go to the youngers run and taunt the youngers through the fence. I posted the two younger boys for free but nontakers as of yet. On this site.i can not eat them, I loved on their sweet little forheads and pet them and made them pets now they can not defend themselves against meaner ducks. I know I should not have done that. Now I can not eat them. But it is good to know that they would taste better than Pekin Ducks. I would nkt mind it at all if ai had not made pets of them. My son wanted them and we thought
it over all of five minutes and we got them from a backyard chicken guy when they were a very dark gold yellow and black color and very tiny last fall. I thought they were egg ducks and did not know they were meat ducks. They lay eggs. They started laying eggs before they were 6 months.

they are truly a dual purpose breed. Good stock gets to 6 to 6.5 lbs and makes a excellent 3 to 4 lb carcass. I butchered out a dozen last year and some were only 4 lbs grown and they made 2 to 2.5lb carcasses and the bigger ones made up to 3lb. I only kept birds weighing 5.5lb and up to increase my size. Have a few 7lb hens that are helping with that. Mine start laying around 5 to 6 months as long as winter doesn't set in on them. Then it's usually January when they start. They lay an egg 6 to 7 days a week and never skip a beat. All our extra drakes go to the freezer. We sell what we can and eat the rest. The don't get as big and fatty as a Pekin and therefore require much less time to cook and prepare. You don't have all that excess fat trimming. I bake a
whole duck in an hour or less. They are super juicy and are so much better than pekin. Even the 1 year old drakes I sent were tender and juicy when we roasted them. No where near as greasy as pekin either. Actually I wouldn't label then greasy at all. I've had home grown pekin here at the house, it's kinda bland and super greasy. I've got 1 pekin this year that will be butchered. He was a freebie cause he was injured and I healed him up in a couple days and now he's fattening up.

Thank you for the information. I will keep my hands off of them and not pick them up for snuggles from here out. Easier on me and them.

Sweet! What's your pricing like there? Sold a few pullets today, finally got rid of the white Bresse... but no bites on chicks now... :/

Im getting $2 each for newly hatched mutts. Most people charge $3 each for rir's, doms, rocks, etc (those old people breeds).
I get $25 a pair for cream legbars and $15 each for isbars. Chick season is fizzling out here it seems
