Dixie Chicks

Good morning! I had a big long post typed out and my computer decided to restart! Hoping this is not how my day is going to go...

Contractors come over today to assess some flooring issues and our patio door that has not been accessible for 6 months. It leads out to our back patio which is covered. I greatly miss sitting out there as often as I used to. Just a hassle to go around the whole house to get there!

Here's an older pic of it. We now have a log rack on the right hand side wall. But you get the idea. It is screened in and so it's wonderful to sit out there and watch it storm, or whatever. It's just really relaxing. But since the patio door (to the left of this pic) has not worked, it's just not been used as much as it was.

@minihorse927 , we have more rain coming today according to the weather. UGH! We have tadpoles in all the puddles. The chickens have ate a bunch of them. The hens are getting their eggs SO DIRTY because of all the mud. It's just nasty. And the heat

....DHs friend called yesterday. He was trying to mow the dry spots of his lawn and he got too hot. Thought we were going to have to call for help. But he cooled down & was feeling better when DH left. DD and I were in the coop for a second and we were POURING SWEAT. It takes at least 15 minutes to get feed and water to all the rabbits and chickens.

@BriardChickens , Hope today is a better day for you. At least you are making progress

I've got cleaning to do before I go to work since the contractors are coming today. Have a good day!

@Outpost JWB, love the enclosed patio.

I will not be attempting to fix the electrical issue. That's my fiance job. I just kicked the electric off to the barn completely so it doesn't burn down while I'm gone at work. Sucks cause it is supposed to be super hot and now the horses have no fan to move air in the barn.

Eww rats, you're right. Nothing really wipes them all out. But I cover all the feed at night-none available. No messes. Then I have 3 bait stations. They work great. The bait gets eaten regularly, then nothing, which is good. Then they get empty again. They run off and die. I think I've seen 2 that died outside the coop in 7 years. I shot one in the scro tum once, and hit one with a rake once. I just happened to uncover a hiding place . But the best is to always lock up the feed at night. I'll be doing it earlier now. The chickens all have a chamber pot they eat out of with no mess. They have a Home Depot bucket hanging upside down over the food and get lowered over the food at night onto a cement patio stone. The end of the rope is outside the pen, so you just unhook it and lower it. I have 4 of them. And 2 with lids.

Smart idea, I love it! Thankfully we don't have rats, but tons of mice! Actually at one point our province was declared rat free!

Dang, but better then burning down the barn with livestock in it. Do the horses have somewhere outside where they could go for the day?

Mini, when are you getting married?? DH and I just got married last year

I don't know when. He's asked me to set a date and I just haven't done it. I'm so indecisive.

There's 4 in the barn and 3 outsidw. The back pasture has no shade in the mid day so they're better off in the barn. Josh is building a run in shed back there so they have shade during the day and I can use it in the super hot days without worrying about them.

Took us a while too to figure it out. In the end we chose a day that went with what my grandparents and parents did to start a new tradition. My grandparents were married for over 60 years, and my parents are still after over 30, so it seemed like a good idea to follow their foot steps as for choosing a date
