Beer, why would bunnies be hard to butcher? Skinning is much less work than plucking. I haven't actually tried skinning a bunny yet, but I don't see what would make it more difficult. The rest of the anatomy is pretty similar.

Lol! Rabbits are super easy to butcher, the skin comes off so easy its best to wait till they cool down. If they are fresh the skin is so soft it tears.
It's the 'off with their heads' part that is harder for me.

BC, could and want to are two different things

Plus, I'll have to keep the resale value of the place in mind too, so while the chicken coop might still be something someone could tolerate or even see as something positive that adds value, going full on Noah's ark most certainly isn't a good idea. All kinds of ideas are being locked away for the next place though, the one that will be more of a farm than this. We might be slightly rural, but I'd still say we live in suburbia.

Beer, oh you meant the touchy feely stuff, yeah I can see that being a bit harder. I think one of those bolt guns would be pretty handy for that though.

I'm sure Jem will let you join, ChickyChickens!

Anyone with kids is either going to love you for it or hate you for it. *mom, mom can we have rabbits, look they already have a home!*

Rabbits shed and grow a winter coat just like a dog. They do very well in cold weather, never heard of a insulated coop for rabbits. Our pet one that just died was always in the outside part of his hutch, even in 20 below zero windchill (-28.8C). The only time it went in its hutch was when it was raining. It was a large rabbit which probably helps, a Rex, but nowhere near as big as them Flemish Giants. I saw some of them that were bigger than beagles.

Beer, I'm just not willing to do the whole keeping water thawed thing with them. And I think an all year rabbit hutch would become too much of an eyesore, with the kind of structures required to keep it clear from snow and stuff. No, the chicken coop is enough work already.

But summer bunnies might be okay.

BC, not in a while. I need to graduate first and find myself some decent work. We've only been here for a year now, and I quite like this place, it's okay for where we are in life at the moment. But there's always the dream house brewing in the back of my head...
