Dixie Chicks

BC, Hilma should be giving birth around the 10th. So just the one still for now. We probably won't know for sure until she brings them up from her nest though, she's made such a deep tunnel that we really can't see in there. It will add some mystery.

BC, Karin has a friend/acquaintance who just got a pair from some friend, we used that buck. We're not planning on getting our own. That guy is a mix of Flemish giant, Vienna and French lop I think.

Beer, Hilma is a mix of French lop and New Zealand red. We still haven't weighed her, but I'd say she's about 10-12 lbs. Raimo, the buck we're using is about 13 lbs.

Karin took an ultrasound of Hilma yesterday (Yeah, yeah, I know... but who doesn't want an ultrasound of their unborn dinner?) and there we're at least three wee ones in there, but she didn't shave her so there may very well be a lot more of them. The image was very bad.

We'll see what this mix produces, but if it's good, we'll keep using the same buck. We might keep one girl from the litter, for her we'll need to find another buck. We have some leads though. Ideally, we don't want our own buck, since the plan is to only breed them 2-3 times per year.

The chicks are here and all are alive!
