I can't eat anything I raise, but I understand those raising meat or poultry for food.  I was wondering if they have pet value or not.  Like if people keep them for reasons other than eating?  Just curious.

The eggs are used in tons of cooking... and they are great pickled...

We thrive on curiosity here... and asking is the only way to ever get an answer...

definately castors.... LOL all I have to do is see those barrels and know how much work it was to make the holes.... but when I watched the video I wanted to cringe... its that whole engineer part of me.... There is an easier way to do this.

For what its worth if you have them on a porch they are going to be very heavy... make sure you use at least five castors to handle the weight.

I know my eggs and chicken is safe from antibiotics, chemicals, growth hormones etc. I feel better feeding my family as much natural as I can.

Hungry Ohiki

Mini was feeding an Ohiki pullet who almost drowned in mud... she was REALLY hungry, lol...

I saw all that but totally missed the vidoe I saw mini say they were gonna do one... doh

Nice planters,but why would someone ruin a good rain barrel?

ppl with say only a patio...they could least grow greens strawberrys ect tomatoe ect...

We got ours for eggs and meat. Mainly eggs, but I don't need 1,000 roosters. We are somewhere around 143 chickens now. They are not pets, but my daughter and I know when one is missing. We name some of them, if they strike us funny to distinguish between them when talking about them. I am the primary one who does the butchering. Although DH has butchered 2 roosters & said he will butcher the rabbits. (we have 9 of them now). We'll see. I may have to read up on how to dress a rabbit.

rabbits easy peasey.. I use to dress my rabbits out all the time when I had my rabbitary..........I love rabbit yummmmmmmy.........really fighting with getting somemore rabbit and not wanting more animals to tend........and they are super easy

our caretaker that live sin our house in maryland raised quail...and eggs the eggs exclusively as well as eats the birds for meat.........they have done it for like 4 years now..... also I think it's the philipines but they love quail eggs some cultures prefere them over chicken eggs

I've also heard they're easier to prepare. I could eat my chickens if someone raised them somewhere that I never saw them. I do have alot of respect for those who raise their own food , and all the chemicals they don't have.

I haven't done amy.of my own yet. I've eaten.local butchered quail. I plan on skinning them.

I started back in 2011 or 2012 I believe raising a batch of meat chickens for myself every year. I can't beat the flavor of my own home raised chicken. Excited for the quail. They're a few days shy of 4 weeks. Butcher around 6 weeks from what I understand.

It was tough to watch the first batch I raised go but after like @Outpost JWB said about the antibiotics and chemical junk, I don't think twice about it. I know how they're raised and get to watch them grow up as haopy, healthy,ranging chickens and not locked in a barn where they can barely move.
