I have made a DIY incubator. I have made them before. (Ignore the temp reading in this pic. it is just for show.

I use 2 boxes, but when built only the glass is the lid.

This one is 10"x9" and 8 " tall. 15 w bulb. I just use a lamp of any sort maybe 2nd hand. I never hand wire.
Above u see foil bottom, skewer holds up hardware cloth no gaps. (Chicks will fall through when hatching if gapped. ) on top of that I put a loose weaved cloth so it breathes. (I also have holes on the bottom and top sides box to breathe, and still air.) I dry hatch the first 18 days. And have a thermometer to make sure temp is right.

Thrown together second hand lamp, glass from second hand pic frame, foil, Tape, (duct, or clear.) Probably $10 or less. Most things I had on hand.

Doing mine with some softwood shavings, a three spot, microwaveable tupperware container, a small capnpf water to the side and a temp strip and also temp radar gun for accuracy..
