should i be caring about predators if the chickens will be located on a rooftop of an closed building
as in like. do I need all those predator proofing heavy chains. hog panels., hardware cloth etc. ? i know I will need snake proofing. does that include hardware cloth etc. though .

** not like an building where you can just reach the rooftop through steps as an outsider. you need the main door opened first. I'm assuming an wild animal couldn't do this ?

** just found in the province itself. may not be present in the area our house is.

* striped hyena
* desert monitor
* hogs
* red fox
* Grey Snake and Viper Species
* long eared hedgehog
* (yellow?) Scorpion

Hi. If any of these critters can climb the outside of the building to access your coop, then yes, your coop needs to be predator proof against those critters. Snakes? Probably yes. Scorpions, yes. I am not sure about the monitor. I know this is a lizard and lizards can climb, but ... ifthisif a vry large lizard, I don't know. You would know. Would you feel safe sleeping on top of this building in mothing but a sleeping bag? You also may need to consider predators from the air. Hawks, eagles, that sort of thing. And yes, for snakes hardware cloth is probably necessary.

Edited for spelling

My chickens have a predator proof run with an apron around it (its very close to the house which deters large predators) I keep them locked up for months at a time if a threats present.Everything eats chickens.

Apart from the predators.
Do you want them to scratch for food on the waterproof EPDM or bitumen?
How do you prevent the chickens from flying down to earth?
im still in the thinking process. but I was thinking. basically it'll be like an coop + run . then the rooftop will be closed from all sides. or just. A very large run. where I also bring them grass and enrichment. I'm assuming chickens cant just be let “grazing” around in our local park as catching them would be impossible even though we're thinking of hand taming them ? I'm not sure what EPDM or bitumen is. ill look into it. thanks

You won't be able to keep snakes or rats out of a coop without galvanized steel hw cloth.One of snakes main sources of food are birds and eggs.Rats chew thru wood,concrete and aluminum.The only thing I know that'll keep a snake or rat out is steel
so galvanized steel predator proofing either way. thanks.
