Finally got a picture of RoX! Took me long enough, right? I absolutely love the picture showing him on his tippy toes crowing, hahaha! This little cockerel is so awesome and that's in comparison to a lot of boys that are here or have been here. He had a moment when he was a total jerk. From a previous experience with another cockerel that was turning into a jerk, I decided that he probably needed more space. That was in fact the problem in his case as well. He's been the best cockerel ever, in my personal experience.

I wonder what the other Dwarf gene I have going on. I have 2, 5-6 month old Dwarfs, one is about to lay eggs soon.

That depends on if you want a flock of them that are true breeding or just a few blue chickens with black skin to look at. I think you could get it in a first generation cross pretty easily.

I LOVE the look of black chickens with black skin and white/very light leakage. The two contrasting colors have such a striking look. I'm hoping for a few of those. My SH/SBH pullet hasn't started laying yet, but I don't think it will be long

If you just want black chickens with silver leakage, that’s even easier. You might want to use a different breed than isbars, since they may only pass on minimal leakage or none at all. Do you have any other silver/white birds?

I have a white silkie rooster and a white frizzled bantam cochin cockerel. All of my other white birds are bantam pullets with red breasts (with exception of a white silkie hen). I believe my SH/SBH cockerel is going to be too big, even though he is on the smaller side now at 17 weeks old.

Ah. Just stick with the isbar, then. White silkies and cochins have recessive or dominant white, which is different from silver.

I was wondering about the crested gene because of this guy. He has a blue silkie father and a midnight majesty marans mother (MMM is a cross of Marans - my bird has clean legs and feet that are slate in color, she's solid black, and has a floppy straight comb). Is he an example of recessive genes (I was thinking BCM) or male specific genes (thinking BCM again) or he is what he is? I wasn't expecting him to have a crest, but I love crested birds. One last question and then I promise I'll stop. Is the floppy comb a gene or just something that happens with the larger combs?

There are some genes that cause floppy combs, but in your case, it’s just the crest.

A blue isbar x Swedish black should give you 50% blues and 50% blacks. You’d probably get some with leakage and some without. I believe they would have black skin, but all I know about black skin is from looking at various threads about silkie mixes.
