Hello everyone,
I purchased these Buff Orps back at the end of March. They are about 4months old. I was told they were all pullets when I purchased. But one of my girls appears to have a larger and redder comb and wattle. She's been this way for about 3 weeks now. All my other Buffs appear to have a lighter combs and small wattles. This is the only pic I have at the moment. I didn't realize how hard it is to take a pics of a chicken. Kudos to you all who get all those fabulous shots. But based on this shot what is your opinion. Thanks in advance.

The one in the center (num 2) is defiantly a cockerel, The bird in front of him ( num 1) and soon after him (num 3) are pullets. But bird number 4 and 5,I have some doubt, they could also be cockerel especially number 4.

I am thinking this one might just be a pullet coming to point of lay before the others. The comb is still small, and apparently didn't appear until after 12 weeks, and 16 weeks is about to POL. Shouldn't the comb appear much earlier on a cockerel and be larger by now?

By 16 weeks I would expect to see a larger comb and wattle on a cockerel. Right now from what I see in this photo it appears you have all pullets. However, if you could provide us with body photos so we can see the tail we might give you a more accurate guess.

In this photo of 16 week old JG's you can definitely see the larger comb and wattle in the cockerel.

Another shot:

4 weeks later.

Maturing pullet:

Hope this helps! I hope yours are all pullets.

Thank you everyone for all your input. Seems like its 50/50 at this point. I will try and take better pics and post.

This is papaya. Not sure about this one. Those two top tail feathers have fallen off.
