do u name drop when selling birds and is it wrong not to ?

If someone wants to know whose line(s) my birds originated from, I will tell them. As far as I'm concerned, unless you bought your stock directly from the "known" breeder in question, they are no longer their birds. Once you've bred those birds, unless you keep a closed flock specifically breeding as the original breeder did, then those are your birds/your lines. I hate it when I see all the name droppers in auctions and especially on ebay! When and if, I ever sell birds for breeding/show, they will be my kudos or my mistakes, no one else's.

I will agree with this to a very specific point, if you aquire a pair or trio from a known individual and breed from them they are yours.. if you spend teh extra and aquire birds as they set a breeder pen for you they are thiers.. When purchasing birds you will not likely aquire the birds as that original resource would have mated them. The birds may priginate fom teh source but unless you a breeder pen they are your's good or bad.

IF your breeder is telling you who to breed to whom then you can say it is still that breeder's line. I get accused of being a name dropper by one here cause when I show pics of a bird and the bloodlines are from parent stock of another breeder I consider respectful and good to let others know what you can get by using birds from that breeder.
NOW when I sell I do not say the lines. I don't have the other breeder telling me who to take to whom. I am then the breeder and it becomes my line. I will tell someone who is interested IF they like to know where I get my birds. But, I do not advertise using a famous breeder's name. I do show my birds in APA events. I breed with proven Best of Breed or even Champs of the class I show. This is usually enough to give the idea to the prespective buyer how serious I am about my birds.

Well, since the breeder's name substitutes for the pedigree, most people with show birds want to know where their stock came from.

That is not name dropping. That is giving the background of your stock. Name dropping is announcing that you had lunch with judge so-and-so, intended to impress people with who you know.
