Do you color your hair?

I do not currently color my hair nor do I have any plans to. Back in college, there were a couple times I used semi-permanent dye to get a reddish/blonde color but I have never used permanent color. My husband says that when I start to go gray, he wants me to color it. I'm hoping that will be far enough into the future that he won't care by then

. He has some gray (he will be 40 next year), but no one is allowed to tell him so. Luckily we both have light colored hair anyway, so the gray on him really doesn't show.

Ok a natural light blond and goes even lighter during summer. I had a semi permanent color added ( hi & low lights) to try and hide the gray/silver I had (mostly along temples and few on top). I came home from the salon after paying $100 to get done, walk in my house, my dogs growled at me and then hubby says you don't look like you. Needless to say I am just letting it gray naturally now. I am not willing to spend that kind of money just to color my hair on a regular basis and have heard way to many horror stories about damages from doing it at home. Honestly the gray/silver blends into the blonde pretty well so far though. I do have to say where I can see someone who is looking for a job coloring their hair. Unfortunately, age discrimination is alive and well right now in the workplace. Proving it is next to impossible but if you follow the demographics they kind of speak for themselves.

No offense taken here... I asked because I wonder how many people even know what their real color is. I had NO idea what my true color was when I stopped coloring it. At first it looked REALLY gray, but now that I've completely gone au nautural I notice the auburn still peeking out in places. I actually like it now. In the beginning stages it was a shocker. LOL.

If an employer wouldn't hire someone for their grey hair....I personally would not want to work there. I'm not going to get a sex change either to get a better pay rate!

But, it's not like I can get out of bed anyway to get a job...laziness you know. XD

I don't think my mom likes it. She still colors her hair, and to have a daughter that is so gray shows that she isn't as young as she looks. I may have more gray than my mom though, I haven't seen her natural color for about 30 years.

Oh my! I thought my mom was being ridiculous because SHE too hates my gray. She uses the "excuse" that her hair is just too fine when she doesn't color it, and she needs it to have "body". Um, mom? You are 75. Your hair is NOT brown anymore. And it's OK, really!

My kids like my gray hair, and my husband says he thinks I'm beautiful (and would be even if I were bald, ahahahahha). So, I guess it is all how you look at yourself.

Our society has a thing for youth... botox, face lifts, augmentations, lipo..... I don't think I want to go through all of those things because even though I have wrinkles, gray hair and saggy fat places.... I AM BEAUTIFUL. Inside and OUT! I think that by showing my true self, I'm showing what God made me into.

Besides, silver and gold are commodities, right? I think my silver/gray hair shows I have confidence in WHO I am, and that being 52 is a great age.

Thanks everyone for all of your input. I just wondered if I was the only one who has stopped the quest for youth. I don't think being young is the only great age to be.

My natural hair color is dark brown, almost black. I started turning gray at 12. In high school, I could buy all the beer. (don't drink now) I finally caved in and started coloring my hair at 27. By 35, my hair was white and after 2 weeks, I had a skunk stripe and looked like fresh road kill. Sooo....I went to light auburn. People's attitudes immediately changed toward me. I could get away with more. I LOVE being a red head!!!!

Well, I WANT to go back to my natural hair..... I let it grow out 2 inches, and it looked horrible! I looked awful, I have talked to my "Stylist", he pretty much told me it cannot be chemically changed, I have to grow it out a couple inches and cut off all the color. I do not mind having natural hair, I just cannot stand to have the colored hair & my natural to grow it out that much, it looks awful.....I guess I could try a wig??? I have colored my hair since I was in my mid 40s, wish I waited to see if I liked my gray hair. It actually is a pretty silver. My hair was auburn when I was growing up, then a dark brown. As I started to grey, my hair is now almost a brown/black.... Theresa

First I found a color that was closer to my natural color and then I waited for my real roots to come in.

Then, I applied a root treatment kit that is very cheap and surprisingly matched my natural hair color pretty well...they have one for blondes and browns. It helped me get past that stage where you look like you have a stripe up your head. I was able to blend it in by using a streaking method each time, sort of lifting up some sections and just placing the color like one would using foils.

It really helped and I only had to use it a couple of times before I could finally just go with my natural color.....I think this works better when your hair is layered and curly like mine, but not sure.

With each hair cut, an inch or so of the old color was clipped off and eventually I was me again! Yay!

I was a natural blonde until I hit puberty, then it went strawberry blonde on me. I tried to get the red out, and found out that my hair will NOT hold a color, and that I am too lazy for upkeep. Now, after going thru the change, it is back to blonde, with natural white streaks. It's great, and there are no roots to show!
