Do you know people grossed out by fresh eggs?

Danigirl, that's a neat story! Thanks for sharing it!

My neighbor on one side will not eat any of my eggs because I have a rooster and she knows they're fertile. I was like...it's okay, I really didn't want to share them with you anyway! MEAN, I know (I actually didn't say it - just wanted to!!).

The shell color thing boggles the mind! Who eats the shell anyway??

Now strangely I don't find that to be true. My daughter breastfed all 4 of her kids, but she's already sworn off any eggs or chickens from my flock, and they're not even laying yet.

Not to jack the thread but I did have someone tell me I was gross because I breastfed my son.

I was not feading him at the time and I did not feed any of my kids out in public (not that there is anything wrong with that). It was just in general conversation with a group of my friends and this girl was there. This was 22 years ago and I was a really young mom which made it difficult to begin with but to have some tell me I was gross!

Wow! So many clueless people. Its hilarious how many folks need it explained that we don't need a rooster for eggs. Heaven forbid if they ever figured out the egg comes out the same opening as the poop! Maybe I should tell some just to see their faces...

My SIL provides all the extended family in her town with her backyard flock that free ranges in their little orchard. Been doing for years, so this spring we got babies; I can't wait to have the real eggs I grew up with from Grandma's.
Bacon! homemade real BACON!!! woo woo, my next project!

I had a lady come buy some of my farm fresh eggs and game back a little later demanding her money back. I asked her what was wrong and she said she couldn't eat eggs from chickens that layed eggs out of the same place they pooed:lol:. I told her that all chickens layed the same way and that the little stains were just from mud in the pen but she was not buying it,lol. I am completely amazed sometimes by how city some people are.

And you quoted her so she can't edit for spelling....wait...yes I think she can. What struck me was the concept of "willing ignorance." There are so many situations that can only be explained as willing ignorance.

I'm not quite sure what that means. The misspelling was intentional, or didn't you catch that?

Figured it was intentional...and even if it wasn't it gave the country twang that fit perfectly

It is all mental. People that grow up getting grocery's from the store don't make the connection of were or what they come from. When they are offered farm fresh chicken and eggs they start to think about were it comes from or what it comes from. That grosses them out.

I have a none fresh egg eater in my family, Its my 14 year old daughter, she loves the chickens and will clean the coop and help me feed and water them and she picks them up for a cuddle but there is no way she'll eat their eggs. I've told her that the eggs in the supermarket come from battery hens that are in cages and never get to run around but this hasn't changed her mind. Since our hens have started laying I no longer buy eggs form the store so now she just doesn't eat eggs. Silly teenager. She wears lip gloss and lip stick so i ask her how does the whale blubber feel on your lips

she thinks i'm joking about lipstick being made from whales(i'm not sure if its true anymore) so i showed her a program about it and she got all grossed out but she still wears the lip gloss. I can't work her out.
