I want to like them. They sound good, they smell good, they look good, I like all the dishes they are incorporated into, but once the shroom hits my tongue the violent gagging begins.
The only time I have liked them is if they are the main ingredient, like fried or stuffed mushrooms dipped in a buttery or creamy sauce.
If they're kinda just left to be themselves in a soup, stir fry, or pizza topping I can't swallow them.
Same lol

It’s only on pizza that I can’t handle them. I love soups and stir fry’s that have them in. I’ve never had them by themselves though.

I've tried them all sorts of ways. I used to be a vegan and that's all anyone would suggest for meat substitutes😭
They'd be like "oh you miss having cheeseburgers? Try a portobello mushroom with tofu cheese substitute!"

And it was kind of an important food staple for vegans because B12, so most side dishes were just plain sauteed mushrooms.

Eewww

If you think the store-bought mushrooms are good, the ones you grow yourself are even better! I have grown Shitake, white button and wine caps from mushroom spawn bags. The wonderful Morel remains hard to grow in N.E.O.

Sounds amazing.
You should try! I know you would love growing them once you have tasted the home grown, it's crazy good. We have this one type that is in season now here where I live that are truly amazing, good we call them pinkies. I have just cased some hoping they will speed up as they are in a bad location If I get time, I will post a photo.

I bet if I spent time growing them I might like them!

I want to make a recommendation, start with a box kit for store bought (white buttons)
mushrooms and fallow the instructions they provide with the box, you can get two sometimes three flushes from one box and when it's exhausted plant the substrate they were growing on in your yard and they will come up the next year.
