Do you made your chicken coop manually?

I started out simple. I built a Catawba Brougham coop. Leaving a project unfinished vexes me to no end! So I took on something I felt confident I could finish.

Manual? I don't recall reading any manuals when I was building the coop. Didn't even know there was a manual.

I built ours primarily with a chainsaw and a hammer. My wife -- bless her heart -- she brought me water (which was KEY!) and did a bang up job holding the end of the tape measure so it didn't flip back, held up some crucial boards so I could nail them in place, stood on lumber to keep it from squirming out from under the saw...all kinds of stuff. She even put a few nails in here and there..

Something just as helpful, though, was that she was very reassuring. When I finished a little something and was displeased with how it ended up, she'd remind me that they were chickens...and who cares anyway? When it was getting dark and I didn't feel like I'd made much progress, she'd say "you did this, and this, and this, and that...."..and I'd feel better. She put up with my groaning and swearing and the pitching of the occasional fit..

Guess I should be saying WE built our coop, huh?

Which is funny, because when it was done, she said...."Hey, you did it!"

I am almost done... round one. Which means it's completed, but the upgrades and fixes are not. I am starting to believe I will never have a free weekend again! I have no more money, or thumbnails, and I couldn't be happier.

Now that there was funny, I don't care who ya are... and no one even got the fact that I hired a guy named "Manuel Labor" guess you'd have to hear my Spanish pronunciation to get it.

Hey sephiroth, congrats and welcome to BYC! I'd love to see pics of your Catawba Converticoop. I build them for a living and would be interested to hear how its working out for you. I have had suggestions from customers for a couple of design changes I'm implementing that should make it easier to use and a little sturdier. Also, what kind of wood did you use?
