some i name by color other by personality here's a few , penny ,ruby ,lizzie, georgia, buffy, vana, ursula,C C ,pocha (pocha hontas), the othe 3 have'nt got named yet,
I name the ones that are easily distinguishable. I have 12 Cornish and only 1 of them has a name because I can tell her from the others. She is Camilla (as in duchess of cornwall) Same with my 5 partridge rocks---I can only tell two of them and they are molly and polly
So far we have:
White Wyandotte/Angel
white wyandotte/Marshmallow
white wyandotte/snowball
white rock/lady houdini (she is ingenious when it comes to escaping the coop or yard
white rock/baby
Buff orp/buffy
black australorp/elvira
blue andalusian roo/capt'n jack
columbian wyandotte roo/wyatt earp
I have only named two of the new chicks so far, they are two of the four that we hatched, it seems obvious the columbian wyandotte is the dad due to the feather patterns--- they are called salt and pepper. They are like film negatives of one another. Where one is black the other is white---where one is white the other is black.
My children name them. They are the Bible Chicks and each hen gets the name of a woman from the Bible. It's pretty funny. Only our rooster got a non-biblical name and he is called Stilts because his legs are so long.
Handsome Crooster ( he's the rooster..)
the big girls:
Chubby (Crooster's best girl-EE)
Bobby (the head hen-EE)
Princess ( the third wife-EE)
Crazy ( she's a little loopy, RIR)
Breakfast and Lunch ( RIRs- cant really tell them apart)
the young'un's:
Velvet (black girl)
Molly ( gonna have to change that one....she's a boy... I'm thinking Dominoe, but he's prob gotta go)
SugarLumps ( cute little boy too, i might keep him, if he doesn't get himself eaten)
The Ducks:
Giblet ( it just came out and sounded good )
Wave ( got her on the way home from the beach and shes a pretty gray)
the Babies:
Cassiopea ( Cassie)
Andromena ( Annie, or maybe Andy)- named for their mamma, Space Chicken, who died. Space chicken was in my husband's music video for song, Spaceman....www.adamswilson.net
The ones i've lost:
Space Chicken
Twinkletoes
Sammy
Penguin
Pheasant
Pearl
hmmm, dont remember the last one....
We named Ruby Rose, she has really dark ruby red for a collar so she started being called ruby and then turned into Ruby Rose.
Big Red was named by a 4 year old. He originally wanted to call her Chicken but we said no then he suggested Food again a no so he went with Red and then changed it to Big Red
Fluufy Butt was named by a 12 year old, he went for Fluffy but as the others are double barreled he wanted to double barrel her's as well so Fluufy Butt was born!
I also have 2 Silkie's one white and one black and we call them Yin and Yang
Lola and Daisy, my two roos - yes, they were suppose to be girls
Kernal, my son named her after Colonel Sanders, but I prefer to spell it and think of it this way
Asphalt, my husband named my Plymouth Rock Barred
Bea, pretty like a peacock, but pea sounds like pee, so went with Bea
Tom, has a turkey face
My chickens have very...."special" names. Not really.
The rooster is called "Rooster"
The Redstar is called "Queenie" cos she was queen when they were in the brooder
The Leghorn with the black zip tie leg band is called "Blacky" (white chicken called Blacky, go figure) for lack of any other name
The Leghorn with the green zip tie is called "Houdini" because she always escapes and roosts in trees, generally a PIMA
The Leghorn without any leg band is called "Cracker" as in "Polly want a cracker?" because she comes up and takes treats from my hand while the other Leghorns are too flighty to do that.
Most of mine don't have names. The ones that do got them because of some behavior or look about them.
EEs with names:
Henny Penny...because the sky is always falling, I forgot to butter her bread, I remembered the butter but forgot the jam, the grass is green, the sky is blue... always some reason for her to be fussing, or musing about something. She walks around all day talking to herself. Weird little gal, with wonderful muffs, and just a beauty!
Liz Taylor...because she has muffs that go straightback from her face, and it reminds me of the old hair style Liz once had. She also has a beard, and is a beauty.
Eeyore...because when it was only 5-6 weeks old, my daughter's friend dropped it. Since then it's neck has been in the shape of a Z. I've tried everything to straighten it when it first happened, and nothing worked. So it has a crooked neck like Igor. Only I couldn't remember Igor at the time, and thought of Eeyore. On occasion she is called just EE now.
White Rocks with names:
Dorothy, because my great aunt has a sister named Dorothy that is just a pain.
The chicken Dorothy use to follow me around the yard, and talk the entire time. Since she started laying, she has nothing to do with me, and only talks when she sings her egg song.
She has one black feather in her wing, and I put a leg band on her so if that feather falls out, I'll still know which one is Dorothy.
Lucy...because my son named one of them Lucy when they were smaller, and they all looked alike to me. Whenever I asked which one was Lucy, I swear he chose a different one each time! Since then, one of the WR has a few hairs that stick out one her fluffy butt. They are nothing like a feather! That's the only one I can tell that's different than the others, so she just became Lucy.
I have one hen that is a WR that is broody right now, and I don't want her hatching this late in the year. Dunno what we're gonna do, but am thinking of giving her a name, and leg band. Maybe 'Big Mama'.
Black Astralorps
My only roo is called Mr. Roo. Original, eh?
Mr. Roo was purchased as a pullet, and is my only rooster.
I haven't named his mate, the only other BA I have, but have been thinking of calling her Raven.
Light Brahmas
I have two, and they don't have official names. We either call them 'The Ladies', or 'The Beauties'. DH's great aunt named them 'The Ladies' because she says they look like a lady all fixed up, going to a ball.
Amberlinks
One is 'Carmel' but don't ask me which one! My daughter named it.
My WRs were brought as straight run, and I was told by many that I would have mostly, if not all roosters, so they weren't really thought of as pets, or named, because I didn't wanna get attached. Of the 10 straight run chicks I bought that day, ALL are hens!!
I named my hens for the "The Girls Next Door" the TV show about the girlfriends of Hugh Heffner, so its Holly, Kendra, Bridgette, and the matronly Mary for Hef's personal assistant. Now I want to get a rooster so I can name him "Heff"
but the hubby says the only name a rooster will have is "posthumous" cuz he'll be dead before he gets a name!
Next batch I have, not sure what I'm going to name them...have 4 more...
