do you think aliens are real?

So you say, but not so everyone says, and no evidence supports the view, so it's best to phrase such sentiments with conditionals such as "I think" or "I believe" rather than just saying "it is so."

It's all about finding out how life would take shape given an independent starting point and under different conditions. If you don't accept natural origins of life and the evolutionary process through which it progresses, then I can understand why you don't find the search to be very important. However, many people are interested in natural origins of life and the evolutionary process through which it progresses, and we are very curious to see an alternative model.

Here's an example -- suppose you learned how to knit a sweater using a particular stitch and pattern from your mom. You are satisfied with the sweaters this stitch and pattern produce, and variations based upon type and color of yarn used to produce them. You preserve this stitch and pattern because of the family tradition of making sweaters this way, and aren't concerned with making other sweaters because they do not interest you..

Someone else also learned a stitch and pattern for making sweaters, and was satisfied with the sweaters this stitch and pattern produced, but wondered what other things could be made if another type of knitting stitch was used, or if a different pattern was used. Is knitting the only way to make a sweater? What other ways of converting yarn into clothing are there?

It all comes down to curiosity and asking questions.

The bible is a religious text, not a text about astronomy. The little bit mentioned about the physical bodies "up there" is incorrect, and acknowledged to be so by most branches of christianity. I don't think it's an appropriate source of reference to use when answering questions about other planets and what might be taking place on them.

You are also implying that the god in the text had only one way of doing whatever he did. What makes you think the Jesus story had to be repeated to obtain the same result? Isn't that placing a limitation on the character claimed to be without limits?

Then God said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years: and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth: and it was so. Then God make two lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1: 14-18

Can it be as simple as God just wanted to make them for our enjoyment? Because they look really pretty in the night sky and we could use them for directional purposes when needed?

Thank you for quoting the bible in a thread about aliens. Astronomy has found a different layout of the bodies in space than represented in Genesis, and information that contradicts the representation above. So perhaps it's best not to continue using biblical references to answer questions about what goes on in space.

The way I see it, the Bible doesn't specifically mention aliens by any means, but at the same time, I see nowhere that it precludes their existence. Personally, I think it would be awesome if there was life out there, though honestly, I'd rather it be non-sentient.

Yep. What else would the bacteria on mars be? It's a living thing outside of our earth, on another planet. Perhaps in millions of years mars will have plants growing. It's an odd thought though.

No, I do not believe that there is aliens. We have enough life here and still finding new ones each day here in our very large world that God has made for us to enjoy.

I recommend the mini series on Netflix called "Ancient Aliens". And that crazy Pharaoh Akhenaton (Amenhotep IV) (spelling?), was definitely a strange guy for his day.
