Oy...
You call it whining, my girls sound like they are grumbling, muttering under their breath.
And it is All About Me!
"Did she fix the weather yet?"
"We TOLD her there should be grass outside instead of that white stuff"
"I'm not laying until she gets things right! Who's with me?"
I don't know who'll be happier when Spring gets here.
My EE is a whiner. I'm starting to think that she may not see very well. When I feed the girls noodles, I dole them out between my finger and thumb. Otherwise, one will take the whole noodle and slurp it down. And my girls have spot on accuracy when pecking at the noodle. EXCEPT for my EE. She misses about 4 times for every hit she gets on the noodle.
I tried an experiement the other night. They have a yellow "Life is Good" treat bowl. So I pulled a noodle out of my bag and dangled it over the bowl to get their attention. Then I dropped it into the bowl where it was challenging to see because it blended in. Each of my other girls would grab it and run off.
But my EE would watch me drop the noodle, look into the bowl, then look back up and me and start whinning.
But she's the only one that whines. So I've got nothing for advice if you have a whole pack who's whinning.
My Golden Sex Links whine "urrr urrr urrr" all the time. It makes me feel terribly gullty. My Wellsummers say "arrr arrr" all the time, very loudly- like they are fussing me out!
#1: Eating.
#2: Scouting the "new" terrain after their tractor has been moved.
#3: Sitting on the nest box.
#4: Fighting over food.
This is what we get:
In the morning when I go out and feed the dog: BAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWKKK!!! If all four start, it is truly deafening.
When I'm observing them: Urk urk urk, bokokawk, *weird gurgling noise,* etc.
After finishing a treat, usually bread: Baaaawk, bawk bawk BAAAAAWWWWWK!!!
All other times: Odd mixture of sounds, including weird chirping noises on occasion. I assume it's whining, as they only shut up if I give them something. They get noisy if I try to hold them.
I have eight demanding divas. When I go out to let them out of the tractor into the run, I hear a purr and then the bawking begins. If I dont do it fast enough for them, they bawk louder and more frequently. They bawk when they pile outside and if there are no treats in the run when they get out there, they beg and yell at me. If they even think they see me peeking out the kitchen door checking on them, they start bawking. They know my van and start bawking when they see me coming home. I thought I was done raising children--instead I have eight more feathered ones!!!
I have 1 or 2 girls that make a very loud crying sound like, AAW- Haw, AW-haw, sometimes when laying. My broody silkie screeamed her head off like that for at least a minute when she couldn't get back into her nest. It was so loud it echoed off of the shed and I swear you could hear her a mile away. And she's a little girl!
