Hi,
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one doing this. Now I can tell Hubby there are many others that keep track of their eggs!
In my first post, I forgot to mention that I have two "sets" of coops. One more toward the front of the property (2 coops with separate runs) that house my older hens. There ae a total of 22 older hens--7 RIR's, 7 Silkies, 3 Leghorns, 2 Frizzles, 1 EE (an exceptional layer of green eggs), 1 Polish, and 1 unidentified small black and white Bantam. I keep the RIR's in one coop and all the rest in another. Surprisingly, the Leghorns get on very well with the Silkies and all the others!
Then there is another coop and run at the rear of the property that houses those hens that are just coming into laying age. I had to keep them separate from the rest, as they were only eating grower food until very recently. I have started a record for the rear coop as I got three eggs from them, so far. There are ten of them and they consist of 4 RIR's (I believe I got the 3 eggs from just one of those), 3 Frizzles, 2 Cochin mixes, and one extremely small unidentified Bantam. We hatched the 2 Cochin mixes and the tiny Bantam from eggs that were given to us back in July. I was told the RIR's were hatched at the same time.
I also keep other notes on my calendar, such as when I got any new chicks, when I need to change the feed from starter to grower, and any unusual or interesting "happenings".
I don't keep a record of the cost of feed since I don't sell the eggs. I think I don't really want to know, as I'm sure this is not a profitable venture--I feel like I'm constantly buying 50 pound bags of feed. But I have PLENTY of eggs to give away to the neighbors to build up good will!
I wish to thank you for all of your posts and I hope they keep coming! Genie
